Well all i can add to this is thank god.

Sunderland AFC have today confirmed that the club will not take up the option to sign midfielder Sulley Muntari on a permanent deal.

The Ghanian international joined Sunderland on a short-term loan from Inter Milan in January and the Black Cats had to make a decision on the player's future prior to Saturday's game.

Chairman Niall Quinn has informed the Italian side that the current deal is not right for the club.

Manager Steve Bruce said: "Sulley has been a great professional in his time here and naturally we'd like to thank him for his contribution to our season and wish him all the best for the future."

Due to the terms of the deal Muntari will now not play any part in Sunderland's remaining two games and will return to his parent club.

The former Portsmouth man made nine appearances for the club after joining during the January transfer window.

Poor decision by Bruce to bring him in during January as we needed someone to make an immediate impact and fit straight in, however he arrived unfit after warming the bench for 6 months or so at Inter, I think Brucey signed him because of his reputation, which is poor management although he will learn from his mistakes.

Still I think we could all see his potential but would he ever reach it at Sunderland?, guess we will never know.

The Ghana game alone tells us he's a very good player, and, at times we did see it briefly - some nice things against Wigan and two extra points at Bolton. For most of his stay, however, he was (a) played out of position (b) didn't look like he wanted to be here - take your pick. One way or the other, he just didn't show enough to warrant the money being asked.

    Good luck, Sulley.

Get in there mate, lets blame it on Bruce and never miss the chance to slag him off.

I seem to remember lots of excitement, lots of well done Bruce, hindsight is a wonderul thing

If some one offered you the changce to sign Muntari on loan in January, knowing he already has Premier League experience & can play here, i would probably expect you would jump at the chance, especially with the injuries we had . Im disappointed things haven't worked out for both club & player as when he first signed i was looking forward to it. I thought he had a good game at Stoke away as well but he never really did much after that for me.

Bruce can't be blamed for bringing in a supposedly top class lad with a great CV in a Januray window.

The lad didn't wanna be here, simple.

The lad didn't perform, he didn't look close to a £6-8million player, the club had a look, and made the correct decision.

Cheers for the Bolton winner Sulley, best of luck, and ta-ta!

like syd say's hindsight is a wonderful thing.

take a look at the posts at the end of jan, to see what a great signing bruce has made, everyone praised him for sealing such a good player.

as it happens, it turned out to be a disaster, he's been crap, but none of us and especially bruce, could have foreseen the way it was to unfold.

    mind he has been ****e..

I guess that's what loan deals are for; both parties sussing each other out. OK it hasn't worked out but thanks very much, good luck for the future and please say nice things about SAFC.

I find it ironic that he showed real glimpses of what he is really capable of in his very last game.

Hang on mate, Im just giving Bruce some fair criticism for this signing. Obviously we were all over the moon with him signing but after the last 5 months it hasnt turned out how we hoped and yes it is Bruce's responsibility for the signings and when you say "never miss the chance to slag him off" you obviously dont know that I am fully behind Bruce, look at my name INBRUCEWETRUST but we are allowed to criticise.

Shame that the lad never cut it, he never really impressed me. I won't lose too much sleep over his departure.

Personally I dont see what more Bruce could of done in relation to Muntari. I was also one of those chuffed when we got him in January spesh with our injury problems, however it hasnt worked out. Everyone was well aware he had been on the bench for a good while in Italy but it doesnt mean he hadnt been training day in day out, therefore I'd assumed a couple of weeks to get settled in and then we'd see the best of him, spesh with him previously playing in England before. Or if not the best then defo better then we had!

However it hasnt worked out (tho he did ensure our survival) and though it has appeared a poor move by Bruce in the end we should be thankful that it was arranged as a loan with a view to a permanent move and not a panic buy as being stuck with superstar wages with sunday league performances could have been disasterous.

A positive way of looking at it tho is without Muntaris poor performances since his arrival we may not have seen the emergance of Jack Colback. Just a thought.
