To be honest Godders I have been thumping the same tub for ages, but I couldn't put it as eloquent as you have, I just hope people read and think before they fly off the handle again.
With the exception of the cringeworthy literally drawn blue line, this is an excellent article. Great to read another view other than the bleeding heart 'poor old Nigel' brigade.
By being stable, do you mean"standing still"? Sometimes this can create inertia. That in itself is a bad thing. Moving forward all the time is better. I was very angry Friday, but I'm beginning to see the Cortese picture. I'm not saying the decision is correct, I'm saying I understand it.
Maybe it is being done on football principles; maybe Nicola Cortese has higher ones than you do. That is not a dig, but just pointing out that I believe that all of us (me included) have been living iun a world of mediocrity in terms of expectations. Msr Cortese isn't.
Every quarter he was speaking to the fans. Not sure if it still happens, but he was meeting 20 season ticket holders at a time, once a quarter. I was fortunate enough to meet on one of those occassions, but don't know if it still happens.
The original post has hit the nail bang on the head. Yes, the timing may seem a bit odd. NA has done us and himself proud, but if NC thinks a new direction is needed then we have to trust his judgement. There was a similar outcry when Pardew was sacked nad NA appointed, but NC got that 100% correct, and we must hope that this decision has the same impact. NA will not be out of a job long (Blackpool, I beleive, are looking at him). I wish him every success were ever he ends up. And welcome Mr. Pocettino, and good luck.
St Godders fab post. When the dust settled Friday night I actually had exact same thoughts. I actually said recently I think Adkins been amazing for us, loved every minute, however I wondered has he taken us as far as he could. I believe and did back in 2010 Adkins was brought in to do a job, get us to the Prem !!! Similar to the way players are brought in and then replaced when timke is right, Adkins brought Billy Sharp (who again fans loved him) to do a job, score the goals to get us to the premier league, he did that then Adkins himself shipped him out without getting a prem game under his belt. Also when we went up after cov win, Adkins face said a story for me, he wasnt like that when we went up to Championship. He almost looked as if the story had finished, I know was emotional day but he let his guard down. Also, when Adkins said in november after Hammers result that he doubted himself for only 30 mins, doesnt matter if only 30 mins as that would ring alarm bells for me if I was Cortese. Now yes Cortese could have dealt with things differently, but he is a businessman who has made very tough unpopular decisions in the past and I dont think has got one wrong yet. Also comments by Matt Le Tiss and sundry annoy me. Too many ex pros beating the drum because they dont agree with him. Well if it wasnt for cortese we would have gone pop so for now we have to trust this decision. Yes the timing is strange but nothing we can do about it. Back the boys and DO NOT let a Stamford Bridge atmosphere develop. Players seem happy, they are PROFESSIONALS and need to act like it. COYR,
Whatever we may think or feel at present, NC seems to believe 'Enough is Enough' if the general feeling amongst some of the fans is to simply survive and get a little better next year etc. NA's manner of departure is painful for all concerned, but a lot has been said, time to move on, and let's get to a position where we we're not looking over our shoulder to avoid relegation. I believe with NA we probably would have stayed up, but now its time to make sure the new guy and the team do this and hopefully some more. Let's not forget NC will have to answer for his actions to the actual owners in May this year. He doesn't seem the type to report failure on his part.
Totally agree with you, Godders! It's time Matt Le Tiss stopped his bitter rants about Cortese. I'm surprised that Sky still allows him to continually air his personal gripes on TV and shame on Jeff & Co for going along with it. Thank goodness MLT didn't get control of our club with all of his mates. What a disaster that would have been! All he did was delay Cortese getting on with it in the beginning. Good luck Nigel, you did a great job. Wish you all the very best. Good luck to the new Manager, hope all goes well with the next phase.
Godders, your post has cropped up on SaintsWeb now. Seems to be very well received and you're getting agreement. Link: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?42646-Enough-is-Enough!
Well said. Rather than waving white handkerchiefs tomorrow (who thought of THAT one? Is it the Blue Oyster bar?), it would be great to organise a giant blue line hovering above the stadium. A couple of airships should do it.
Oh and Clotese merely bought the club from the administrator USING Markus Liebherr money. If it wasnt him it would of been someone else as there were indeed other interested parties. FACT Cortese is a complete joke and doesnt know how to run a football club. Les Reed keeps the whole thing running and was responsible for bringing in Nigel Adkins. Some of you so called 'fans' need to take a look in the mirror and grow a pair.
White handkerchiefs...look a right load of ninnies. Do people have hankies now? Chant his name, then support the team once the game starts. And also greet the new manager, but I'm sure you will.
I was one of the people most annoyed on Friday, but I don't disagree with you at all. I don't doubt Cortese's commitment to this club, and I don't doubt that he made this move with the belief that it will help the club achieve its goals. What worries me is that Cortese's credibility with the fanbase is on the line. Had we gone down with Nigel in charge, I don't imagine that it would have been a significant blow to Cortese's standing, because we all knew that it was a possibility. Now, however, failure to stay up will be placed squarely on Cortese's shoulders, and the result is likely to be a fairly toxic relationship between the chairman and the fans. Not that Cortese should make his decisions on the basis of making the fans like him, but the possibility that what has heretofore been an era of good feelings will turn sour scares the hell out of me.
