Matt is and always will be a legend for his performances on the field, as has been said above, possibly the greatest player to wear the shirt. No-one would argue with that. However, off the pitch his record isn't so good. Nearly dragging the club into an involvement with Pinnacle was one of the worst things that could have happened to us at that terrible time in our history, and the fact that the administrators chose to listen to Cortese and Markus's pitch rather than his is something he has never forgiven Cortese for. Bell end? No, that's too harsh, his heart is in the right place as far as the club goes, but he should stick to purely football matters with his punditry, and leave business decisions to those who have strengths in that field. By the way, Belegend sounds a bit Tolkeinesque to me!
In their own ways MLT and NC have both saved the club (from relegation in MLT's case) so i respect them both regardless of any foibles they have
Lol you related to him ? The point is he is associated with saints in the media so what he says is taken note of and reflects on the club ,he should be and is intellegent to know this before he speaks,if it were a number of other ex players talking about the club the way he does I wonder what your reaction would then be ,I'm sorry but being a good footballer dosnt excuse your actions from less talented ones
Sorry, but I have to disagree, on account that you simply cannot compare Le Tiss with any other ex-player. I don't just mean for his ability, but for his loyalty. He was, let's face it, akin to bloody Van Persie playing for Wigan, and refusing to budge, despite offers from Man Utd and Spurs et al. You really do have to remember this about the man, particularly in this day and age, when players up sticks to thier closest rivals for the matter of a few greedy extra pennies. You see the reaction to Adkins being sacked, a few lively web forums and the promise of a few eedjits waving white hankies in the air. Big wow. Had Matty been sold during the mid-90's there would have been ****ing riots. Seriously.
Legend as a player for us, shame he just can't see beyond the end of his nose. Pun most definitely intended.
I'm guessing you missed his interview were he said the only reason he didn't join Spurs was because they offered him the same wages. He went on to say wages around at the time he played were all about the same. The interviewer went on to ask him if he was offered more money would he have gone his reply "like a shot" .
Truly unbelievable people sprout **** about tiss. Cortese might have saved us but would he have done if we got relegated at the dell? Doubt it lets face it MLT kept us up for years where relegation would really have been a disaster. He was also the most talented player we have ever had the good fortune of having played for us. He deserves a statue outside the ground. So what he has opinions about the club he dedicated his life to he's entitled to them and no one knows the story between him and NC but the way Cortese treated Adkins doesn't really count in his favor does it.
But what of his chances of representing England? This hurt him a lot. Everyone knew back then that had he gone to a bigger club this would have made him an England regular. Matty has a very dry sense of humour. I don't take his "like a shot" comment as being completely sincere.
Again, disagree. The pressure caused by the Venables/Hoddle non-selection was immense. If he is not your "hero", this is - I'm presuming - because you never got to see him play.
Of course I did, and I have full respect for everything incredible he did on the pitch. I just don't feel like we need to exaggerate and over-glamourise his history by pretending that he'd rather die than pull on any shirt other than a Southampton one.
Le Tiss will always be a legend, however I think he needs to remember that the media hang on to any negative comment he makes about Saints. As far as I'm aware, he has never given an example to go with his "the way the chairman runs the club". Le Tissier ability with a football - 2nd to none Le Tissier love of the Saints - top draw Le Tissier hero to fans Le Tissier knowledge of how to run a business????? I think he refers to people he knows who have lost their jobs when he talks about how out club is run. Unfortunately, I've never met anyone who has lost their job who thought their boss was great for doing that. Le Tissier should never be slagged off though, as he has earned one or two "byes"

If I remember rightly(on my phone so can't find the article) he said he didn't move because of wages, he also said because of being only offered the same wages he couldn't be bothered to move his family. Yes he still stuck with us, but would it have been the same if he was offered higher wages?, we will never know.
