He wasn't in the hole. A load of times he was right back. Was he outside Larrson. Did we play this in an attempt to counter Wigans formation.
He was certainly moved in the last 20 mins to help out Gardener on the right of defense, as they were doubling up on him and getting at us but he certainly started as the 2nd striker. He was just ineffective mate all afternoon imo but should have sealed a very comfortable last 30 mins with our 4th. He just isn't a striker.
If MON is to persist with him then he really needs to work on improving his finishing, it is a massive flaw in his game.
Because talent wise and on his day, he is a class above anything we have now. That doesn't necessarily mean he fits into what Marty is trying to do with the team though. His good days are starting to be few and far between though, thats the problem. I'm on the fence with the is he the solution or the problem argument. Give him until the end of the season to see if he can discover the form we know he is capable of, on a consistent basis. If not then maybe the summer will be the time to cash in on him.
It's always been about consistency with him - he just doesn't have it. Given his role, he doesn't need to be awesome game in and game out, but we need more than the 1 in 10 he's delivering right now.
Again, I'd say what does his record prove? I've never been his biggest fan, but I do realise he could be immense. Unfortunately, I've not seen him fulfill his potential. I wouldn't miss him should he go. I know this is not what most think, but I question his lack of goals and assits. If he hasn't got this in his game, what does he offer???
is 1 on 1 summed him up. he takes too many touches and blubs it. if he can't get a 'consistent' very good 3 or 4 games for every naff one time to cash in.
He's a luxury we cannot afford. A very very skilful individual, sh*t finisher tho, but more suited to Arsenal than ourselves. Although our scoring is improving with another proper striker playing with/behind Fletch we would create and score more.
Absolutely spot on. As I was reading this thread I was thinking "is he a luxury we can afford?" and the answer has to be no. Sess has undoubted talent with the ball at feet, but his shooting is terrible. I think MON plays him in a central role for his nuisance value against opposition defences, but we really can't afford to waste a player in this way. We need a player with an eye for goal behind Fletch, which is why it is crutial that MON signs the right player for this position if he wants to continue with the current tactics and formation.
Mig Stones, JOS, Mangane, Rose Sissoko (cherry on the cake signing) Johnson, N'Diaye, Sessegnon (his only role for me) Fletcher Graham (I am resigned we will buy this lad now) Westwood, Cuellar, Larsson, Gardener, Catts, Wickham, Zarate (if true, a decent attacking midfielder on loan) That's a good team and a good bench and top 10 easily this season imo. If Sess cant play this role and settle, then we cash in. Simple as that for me.
I reckon most fans recognise this, but MoN has persisted in playing him as one, I reckon he must be awesome in training but in a 'real' game he just losses composure, his miss yesterday when he did not shoot with his left peg could have cost us the game. I would argue his skill set of speed, dribbling ability, will generally beat the first man means he is a natural winger.
He isnt a conventional winger in the old sense of getting down the line and whipping crosses into the box but more just a tricky player that can cut in and attack defenders and create havoc. Defenders would dare not tackle him for fear of penalties, whereas through the middle he is receiving the ball with back to goal and is easily tackled. Running centrally, he isn't strong enough.
I can logically agree with the critisism of Sess but he's a player who adds flair to the squad in the same way that Zendedn added class... the club is lessened when they leave.
He's not a great team player that's the problem. He can beat a man easy. He is excellent with the ball at his feet. However he lacks vision. On many occasions he beats a man there is a goal scoring pass and he goes on to shoot and miss. He has 2 assists from mishit shots. He just can't get his head up and look for a team mate. He is either very selfish or he knows he can't make the pass.
I think Sess has played alright, ok he does not score loads of goals but if you watch the bloke he works really had and a lot of the time actually wins the ball back for us. He is also comfortable on the ball, he shows for it a lot and usually keeps it and gives it sensibly. In some ways he needs to learn to be more selfish. I think he gets a hard time because we all know what he is capable of. He would still be my 4th name on the team sheet after Mig, Fletch and Rose.
