Why would he be whispering? It's not exactly a secret that Reed is the brains of the outfit as far as football matters go. I don't understand why anyone thinks this is a problem though, every club has a board which makes decisions, why shouldn't ours have someone who knows as much about the game as Reed on it? And to be fair they haven't got much wrong so far have they?

That's exactly the point I keep making! Why does it matter exactly who makes the decisions, because as far as I'm concerned, so far so good.

Not necessarily believe it, but as I said, seems feasible.

Well as OTB said earlier, it could easily just be a bunch of other stories jammed together to make a conclusion. Makes sense, too, it's a hot topic at the moment so may as well squeeze every angle of stories out of it.

But people believe something they see posted by someone on twitter with no credentials or sources, so no surprise people don't hesitate with this!

Think I'm just getting bored of the 'we must find out why Adkins was sacked' by reading into every media story about it crap. Truth is no one will know apart from Adkins and the Board and I doubt they will ever tell. We just need to accept he's gone and move on.

I agree we will probably never know .

Hopefully he got a good financial reward , he certainly deserves it .He won't have to wait long either for another job !!! We still don't actually know why Pardew went .

Nigel has gone , I will miss him but Maurucio has my total support now .

One bit I think they have got wrong in the article is: "Some of Southampton’s British players now fear the squad will be flooded with foreign imports and they will be pushed out."

Given that the original announcement majored on Pochettino's use of the youth system at Espanyol, I would imagine the players are perhaps a little bit less likely to be pushed out by imports. They'll hopefully be fighting for their places against a bundle of homegrown talent.

I really don't understand this mindset. Why are they any more likely to be forced out by new signings than they were before? Or is this literally just about them being foreign?

I doubt it was one thing. In the same way that a manager can lose the team, Adkins lost Cortese. At the beginning, they shared the vision to get Saints back in the PL. Cortese had picked the right man for this task. He deserves real credit for that. Once in the PL, Cortese wanted the team he had dreamed of and Adkins was probably more pragmatic. They certainly differed on the players they wanted, because we never got the players that Adkins wanted (he wanted to shore up the defence). Ramirez is not what we needed, but is an example of the player that NC wants. As a rift between visions opened, Adkins will have lost influence with Cortese. They are such different people...Cortese will understand Poch far more and vice versa.

Pardew said recently that his parting with Cortese was not a major bust up and they parted politely enough, but they were not on the same wavelength.

Meant to add...just as Cortese was right to hire Nigel, I hope he is right with Poch and I wish him every success.

Sharp was a quick fix because we couldn't get JRod. See how quickly he was dumped once JRod was signed (though that may also have been to reduce costs because of Ramirez). Adkins wanted a top class goalie....Gazza was supposed to be one for the future that we ended up having to play. Forte was an Adkins signing earlier in his start at Saints...wouldn't have impressed Cortese.

Not sure if you mean the paper's mindset, the players' or mine. If it's mine you're commenting on then, my apologies, I've not been clear.

My mindset is that I don't care where players come in from. However, I'd rather see homegrown talent rather than bought in talent (wherever that may be). The club's been very clear in stating during Pochettino's appointment that he's seen as able to use the youth system. So, hopefully the academy will be even more of a success and the competition for places will come from the youth system.

Ref foreigners, if we're going to buy, I want us to buy the best we possibly can for the cash, which means buying to get the best value in the world. I'd rather have a good foreigner any day than a worse Brit for the same cash.

Harsh reality is that the new manager has credibility abroad which however much we loved him Nigel would never have.

I hasten to add there had been rumours that all was not well between the two towards the end of last season, namely in the January window 2012. In those days there was regular meetings between LR NC and NA. Especially leading up to the window and during the window. There was disagreement I gather in regards to targets. The same happened in the summer window although a lot of scheduled meetings were cancelled. You are right I gather about the Japanese additions, something weird went on here as NA new nothing about either I gather as a possible target. I had heard we were in for a Scandinavian at the time so to was surprised by the Japanese centre back!
I have had a feeling that NC had lost patience with NA for a while but I had always thought it was because of our precarious position in the league.
I am not sure how much of the article is true and how much is exaggerated obviously they have picked something similar to what I had heard added in bits and peices and came out with 5....not sure.
What is plainly obvious is that NA has gone and we have to get on with it.
As to the other point about a load of foreigners coming in they still will have to field a certain number of "home grown talent" as per the premier rules.
I agree though there is going to be a huge clear out with maybe some surprising names going........

ID say even J-Rod was a Nige signing. Guess it was done by committee with the Don then closing (or not) the deals.

Whoever signed them, our recruits have been a bit hit and miss....what about Tadanari? Looked promising, had two injuries and never got back in. Even his friend Yoshida seemed to have doubts that Lee was suitable for the PL...when asked he paused a very long time then waffled.
