He can do better. Perhaps if he holds on for a few months Liverpool would come up. I would be over the moon for him if he could get that job.
I agree. When Brendan Rodgers fails to get them into Europe they will look around and see Nigel and there will be a lightbulb moment.
I had imagined him taking over at Everton when Moyes went to Man Utd. This was in 2016 after he took Saints to Europe. Never mind.
Can do better than Blackpool, but can understand that he wants to get right back into the saddle with half a season to go. He would have been on training ground today...Saturdays will be terrible for him. Good luck, Nige.
He won't have to take the first job that comes along in order to eat, that's for sure. I can't see that any Championship club wouldn't want him, so he can afford to be wait until the right opportunity. It would be very interesting to see if any lower table Premiership clubs made him an offer. I hope he succeeds with his next appointment and I am sure that he will. Anyone who hopes that he manages a team to finish above us in the table, however, clearly is not really a Saints fan IMO.
I am not too sure there is a great difference in it. Rogers had one successful season in the Premier League with Swansea whereas Adkins has had 6 months experience of improving a team in the Premier League. I would say that that back to back promotions with us and two promotions at Scunthorpe (on a shoestring) outweigh Rogers experience.
I really don't think a club of Liverpool's size, these days, will take much notice of what a manager has done in the lower leagues. Rightly or wrongly.
If Blackpool bring Adkins in and keep hold of Ince and Phillips until the summer, I could see them sneaking into the playoffs. Not sure how likely that is though. Something better would come up if he were prepared to wait.
getting back on the bike (as opposed to the bus) would help him in his recovery from losing his job here. Weekends must be like a desert when you are used to being involved with a team.
Yes, as bizarre as it sounds. But then I thought it was bizarre appointment at the time, and still sort of do now. I guess they may have factored in his time at Chelsea as part of the coaching staff there, but I doubt it. But absolutely nothing that he did below PL level - neither at Swansea, Watford nor Reading - says to me that that would attract a club like Liverpool.
Fair point! And I do agree with you that it is a strange appointment. Thank you for a reasoned and thought out debate.
If I were him I would hang on until the great summer sacking spree. He may even be able to get Newcastle if they don't start to pull their finger out pretty sharpish, massive club and would be fairly easy to get back up if they went down.
There aren't many good jobs going at the moment. The ones going or looking likely to go soon are either impossible tasks or run by despotic chairmen. He could do worse than to look to the continent.
Exactly, after his run in with Cortese I would like him to have a nice chairman behind him. Pity Norwich isn't up for grabs, he'd get on great with Delia Smith!
I have got odds of 45/1 with a bookie that adkins becomes villas new boss with in 2 weeks! worth a tenner watch this space BP
