Not sure about that. NC would have persuaded Markus that Nigel going was a necessary part of the vision.

I was reading this forum (and others) and tweets from 10:00am onwards, could not believe it from even tho the information was coming from multiple sources....

Could NA have taken us to the top, we will never have the pleasure of knowing. Felt really bad for NA and by the end of yesterday I started to think, maybe NC knows what he is doing.

This morning I feel down again, the shock has caught up with me, I think I was in a bit of denial yesterday and the news of a new signing and a new bloke in charge gave me some distraction.

ps what happens now if the Argies feel brave and invade the Falklands...

Good luck to Nigel at his new club. He was a positive person and fans loved him.
Football is a business at this level and all about money and success.
Alex Ferguson summed it up in his interview when he said he wasn't surprised at his sacking, as the game is
so unpredictable nowadays and different to what it used to be.

Look at the recent sackings of managers good example Shaun O'Driscoll doing a good enough job
but not considered to be good enough at the next level!

Football is a hard hard world to be in, player wise and now even more the pressure on the managers and the
short window they are given to succeed.

Maybe Adkins will be relieved the pressure is off him. He tends to look at the positives

Good luck in your next post

Know how you feel Archers. You all know I loved NA but who knows maybe this was the right decision to move the club forward. Timing is weird and we may not like the way it was done but NC hasn't got much wrong so far. Hopefully this in time proves to be a good call.

Exactly. I posted earlier that Cortese believes and wants more than any saints fan can dream.

I agree with SaintDon's post too. I don't really believe its happened but it has. I feel terribly sad for Nigel Adkins and I believed in him; I believed he'd be here for a long successful (relative) time. Cortese believes he can reach the sky. I hope he can. I'm worried we could crumble in the process.

I'm beginning to see why he has done it. We haven't been great really, it just feels like its been great. Bad start, lots of goals, a couple of battling draws . The Villa second half at home and the Newcastle game were free flowing, the other games were battles. The draws to Stoke, Norwich and Swansea should have been wins. With those extra 6 points we'd be even further up the league and maybe, being super mega critical, Cortese may have decided we are below par in terms of expectation. We are not for me, but I can see for a hard nosed task man that we could be.

Yes think that's it FLT. Clearly when Poch became available NC thought he had to act. Some very good judges think he's the real deal. Let's hope they are right and we have hired a new Mourinho!

Interesting comment because we would overnight be the most hated team in the country, that's just how too many people think.

Well the dust (or should that be snow!) has settled after yesterday's events and although I am devastated that Nigel has gone I will continue to put my heart and soul into supporting the team. I will be backing the new manager as well and I hope he doesn't get an icy reception on Monday.

Just before kick off all the Saints fans (and any Evertonians that want to join in) stood up and sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" for our favourite Scouser.

I'm sure Nigel will appreciate it and I reckon SRL might do as well.

Well said Tom! I hope we all have moved on a bit by Monday. Nigel would be the first to say "line drawn and move on to the next game"

When the news first broke out I was livid and I considered boycotting matches. But I soon calmed down and realised that the team needs our support and so does the new manager - it's not his fault. By all means vent your anger at Cortese but creating a hostile atmosphere at SMS or boycotting matches achieves nothing. In fact, it will harm our chances of survival.

Agree Tom. One thing is certain NC believes that WE WILL STAY UP. He would not have made he decision now if he thought our PL status was at risk.

I really feel that on this issue Cortese needs to speak out. I know it's not his way of doing things. But I feel the fans, and Adkins, deserve a proper public explanation of this change. Personally, I found the short statement on the OS a bit disrespectful and didn't show any recognition of what Adkins has achieved with us.

To be honest, I would be quite happy if the game is postponed on Monday. It gives the new manager (I still can't spell his name) a lot more time to get to know the players before we play a match.

NA gone. Is it such a shock? I did think that NA would have been here until the end of the season then NC would push the button.

I think NC was never going to keep Nigel long term and he only had this season no matter what happened. Timing is crucial and we can only wait and see what happens over the rest of the season before we we know whether this appointment is the right one. Many posters have come on various sites to deride the decision and say they will never darken the doors of St Marys again. I I am old enough to remember every manager since Ted, the west stand booing him and the Bates out campaign Lawry was not loved at first. Branfoot shenanigans etc. The simple conclusion is managers come and go. Owners come and go. NC must be thinking this was an opportunity to get in a bloke who can carry us forward. Time will tell but if he has got it wrong he will get rid.

As others have said this is the time to keep the support going. No amount of abuse is going to bring Nigel back and I doubt that he will be snapped up by a premiership club, but I bet he has a job very soon. Anyway lets move on, get behind the boys, beat Everton and move up the league.

We are are Saints fans irrespective of who comes and who goes.

Yeah, I think the chairman owes us an explanation. But I won't be holding my breath. The omerta code seems to be the Cortese way.
