I doubt there are many football fans that would stay home to watch the 'telly' but I'll bow to your knowledge on the subject as you're in a far better place than me to judge
Perhaps they decided to stay in and watch the FA Cup third round replay. Whatever they did they certainly didn't make it to Stamford Bridge. Sounds like it was a good game too, although failing to beat Chelsea cost Adkins his job which is a shame.
Chelsea would have beaten QPR, Swansea or Saints? Comedy club with a comedy FSW manager. Congratulations. Guardiola should sort it all out next season though so sit tight!
If you look at away following as a proportion of home crowd, the North East clubs don't look too good. Miserable excuse to pin that to Sunderland's unemployment rate. Get off your arse and stop sponging, poison your children, steal coppers from tramps, mug old ladies, sell your dignity, buy junior tickets, follow your mate through the turnstile, jump the train; do whatever you have to in order to follow the club you claim to love. Sunderland and Newcastle both take good followings to other Northern clubs, but south of Yorkshire they just don't have the fanbase to give them that extra 1-2,000 fans like Leeds, Liverpool and Man U can when down south, or Arsenal and Chelsea can when up north. Those five clubs, in my opinion, are the best in the country for away support, but it's the first three who are a cut above the others.
Strange selling procedure only giving 14 days notice. Saints only took half their allocation and we did not have time to sell it. Wigan is a less attractive fixture and sold out quickly. Bad organisation from the club, even with saints not selling out we should have got 40.5k
First of all... you can only get a maximum of 4500 in that stand for the premier league. That's what we got. That's what Arsenal got and Man United so it wasn't 5000. Nevertheless taking about 4000+ to Wigan is a good effort
Look, nobody is saying Sunderland's support is poor, you are easily one of the best supported clubs in the country home and away (top 10-15 easily) in terms of numbers but the suggestion you get maximum and allocation and sell out every game is laughable, the only clubs at current that can do that are United and Liverpool, perhaps Arsenal at a stretch but there numbers in Europe are nowhere near as good as Chelsea, Leeds or even Spurs/West Ham that have a high contingent of fans that also followed England in tournaments as well.
Ah it's cool, hes always confused from what I have heard. Apparently he claimed Benitez had achieved more than Sir Alex Ferguson
No wonder our country is still known for hooliganism with fans of them clubs making up the numbers. Chelsea and West Hams bad name goes without saying, Leeds are the club with the most banning orders in the game. Tottenham are alright though. Before Chelsea had the money and success, the Sunderland support was better in numbers, going to games. Not now though.
The only ones who always sell their full allocation at Sunderland is The Skunks and Man U (and Man u only get about 2,000 due to the allocation being reduced due to prsistent standing).
Rubbish. Our away support was superb in 70s 80s and early 90s pre Matthew Harding. Just behind United and Pool. Just above Leeds Newcastle Spurs. Our away numbers have decreased if anything since our success. I would say our away numbers peaked 83-86
