Cortese doesn't have much of a connection with the fans. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing overall.
wow. that was poignant. I will get behind the new manager, but it feels as though something has been ripped out the club
Wow I thought that managers just come and go and can be replaced. I that may be the case to the powers above but in Nigel Adkins that just doesn't apply. What a genuinely decent, wonderful, and inspired and caring manager and man he is. The this message has further immortalised this man in Southampton folklore.
Scunnie fans said we'd love Nigel and they were right. Don't expect to love the new manager, but I hope I can admire him.
Nigel was more than just the manager, It's when you start to remember the things he used to do in the community and how he always spoke with passion and ambition. I remember last season when he voluntarily went to the apprentice convention at St Marys and also gave an inspirational speach, he also made a point of speaking to as many parents and children as he good giving great advice.
Well if this appointment is a success, then I guess he'd argue its a good thing, due to his lack of sentiment in these matters. Not that he affords us much dialogue.
Sounds ridiculous to say but this actually feels similar to a bereavement or that sad sad day we lost Markus, It's almost unbearable to think we won't see Nige doing another trademark interview pre or post match! That picture just about finished me off, he obviously didn't even get the time to say a proper goodbye! Hurts big time!
I've spent all afternoon with no real feeling or emotion. Just spent it stunned. This message has finally awoken my feelings and emotion. It's sort of made it feel real now.
Unfortunately the size of the picture in your avatar or signature is limited but I've put that image in my signature and don't intend to take it out until I leave this forum. It will be my own small tribute to a fantastic human being.
shows he didnt get anything close to the goodbye he deserved. Didnt get to say goodbye to the fans and didnt even get a chance to speak to his players. Disgusting treatment to such a legend.
I've been feeling like someone died all day - every now and then, it slips my mind for a bit, then comes back into view as a feeling of grief, before I realise, 'oh, that's right, Nigel's gone'. Truly gutted. Even my girlfriend's gutted, and she only knows him from MOTD. Neutrals at work I've heard talking about it even feel bad - and all say that we're faves to go down now from their point of view. Testament to how much an impact Nigel has made that other supporters see it as a bad thing for us he's gone rather than anticipating the positive 'new manager' effect. Out of interest, does anyone think that this is a good move/glad he's gone? Not judging - just reckon that point of view could make me feel better. Worth a try anyway...
Pardew didn't either. He was silent for a long time after as well...suspect it's all part of the severance package. I'm sure he will speak to some of the players that he is particularly close to.
I can already picture this moment being re-enacted in 30 years time in a Damned United-esque biopic of Adkins managerial career. I have so much love for that little fella and his crazy abundance of positivity that it's almost worrying.
I'm hoping it will be in the long term. I suspect we will have a difficult few games, but we probably would have anyway, then go on to survive. The team will still be there and trying their best for us. Then next season a few new players and, hopefully, a better league position. This may have also happened with Nigel, but we will never know. The new manager (difficult to write that) is supposed to be good and a bright young manager....I wish him all the best.
There is no way I think from a fans point view this feels positive right now but we do have to remember that this guy comes with a huge reputation and pedigree, he was sacked due to not being able to work miracles after the espanyol board pulled the team apart by selling anyone of any worth....this won't happen at Saints! Morally there is nothing Nicola can do to make this up to the fans and to be honest I don't think he actually cares that much, however we also have to remember that Nicola has not made a single bad decision at this club I can remember, he is a great businessman and pulled off some wonder deals, he has got people talking about us, we are now known on an International level way more than ever before and I just hope this bucks the trend of another good decision for the club None of the above however helps any of us feeling particularly saddened of loosing the best manager we have had in ages!!!!
