That still leaves 2 places. Southampton wouldn't be anywhere near the Premier Legaue without Adkins, so I don't have much sympathy about crying over losing something you've only had for a few months after sacking the guy who got you it. But anyway, the ideal scenario is the chairman being punished not the fans.
Shocking decision. I have a good friend who's a Saints fan (her dad's a season ticket holder) and she's gutted and angry. I hope for Saints fans this doesn't kill their season but then I'd hate for any chairman to sack a good manager and be able to say he'd done the right thing in the end. Good luck to Adkins and I hope he gets another chance at a club soon.
it's absolutely disgraceful in my opinion. In 2010 they had a 5-year plan to be back in the premiership... Adkins did it in 2 years and his reward is to be sacked?! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/9269293.stm Seems like a great guy and done an incredible job. This, along with the Venky's decision to sack Big Sam, has gotta be the worst decision of all time. Oh and Abramovic employing Benitez, purely because of the fan response
You're annoyed??? You should be a Saints fan then. Most of us are furious. I think most fans of other clubs know that we, the fans, were right behind our Nige. Cortese is as ruthless as they come, with not an ounce of sentiment in his body. He did the same with Pardew,( I didn't particularly like him anyway) and now he's done it again. And I can understand how a lot of fans want Saints to get relegated now. This makes no sense at all and I'm embarrassed to be a Saints fan tonight. I love my club but at the moment Cortese is getting on my thrupney bits !!!
When something like this happens, you tend to think that there must be more to it than meets the eye. However, to sack a manager who has done so much for the club and appears to be stabilising the team in their first year in the Prem AND announce his successor in the same breath! It leaves you wondering if there are any ethics left in football.
Fans are fickle. If this new guy keeps them up they'll soon forget about Adkins. Not a big fan of him to be honest, he did well getting them 2 promotions but lets be honest they should have have been in League 1 in the first place, if they didn't get promoted in that league it would have been a worry given their budget. He should have been give the chance to stay until the end of the season purely for the fact that he wasn't bottom of the league but if Southampton stay up I don't think you'll hear too many fans complaining about the new manager.
ok so i actually like southampton and how they built their new gorund and back to the le tiss days the brand of football etc... but you've a few big mouths too. I think its a shocker... its stupidity of the highest order and smacks of a chairman lsitening to agents of players like gaston big cheque rameriez saying how they could get bigger names if they had a big name manager.... just think its stupid. anyway... qpr? they are not going down they are the next billionaire spenders and Fair play doesn't come into it with them (yet) just like city they can spend for a whiel but then its done.... happy harry is taking the big cheque and buying all aorund him (players not top 4 club really wanted but have big names, players levy prob rejected) It'l lstill take big work to do it but who knows.. maybe your owner decided he needed to change to stay up as a result of qpr's actions and you'll get di matteo or poyet or worse mark huges stupidity... may Sven?
No they won't complain but I don't think this is a case of fans being fickle. As fans what choice do we have? We are always at the behest of our chairmen/owners. That doesn't mean we forget the people who bring us good times. It's part of the deal of being a fan I suppose that we will always support the team more than the individuals who grace our clubs.
