Well he spoke English for 30 seconds. Good luck, cos u r gonna need it. This club really never lets you enjoy anything. Its so hard trying to support them but Nige put the pride and respect into the club. I am devestated
Does this mean we are all getting of the bus now and have to find a new form of transport? All the best to Pochettino
"Pretty good record considering Adkins' PL win percentage is 23%" Jog on mate, you are embarrassing yourself.
He was given a 5 year target to get into the premiership, and he overachieved and did it in 2. Thus to be sacked when he was starting to turn things round IS being treated badly. You seem to think that just paying someone handsomely gives you the right to treat them disrespectfully. it might in your world, but it doesn't in mine. Pochettino has achieved little as a manager, but is said to be a good man manager, and good at bringing youth through the ranks. These were exactly the phrases Lowe used to justify Portaloo/Wotte. In addition, Sir Nigel is also a very good man manager, and has a good track record of bringing youth through the ranks. We have had no problem in bringing good players into this squad, so why would having this realtively unknown manager, most famous for giving away a penalty against England than for his managerial career have any better joy in persuading messi to join us. He has zero experience of the premier league, or english football, and will have no clue about our players - exactly the same as Wotte/Portaloo. Instead of accusing people of being ignorant because they disagree, I would suggest you actually try and come up with reasoned arguments. And this discussion highlights what I said at the end of my previous post. We need to be all on the same bus, and this decision by Cortese has in one fell swoop turnded fans against each other, and some aginst the club and Chairman. Masterstroke!!
Ok, I appreciate your point of view, but this thread is a positive one to welcome Pochettino and discuss what he can do for us, there are (several) other threads for the Adkins mourners Another persuasive point...
Yeah I can see where you're coming from, but I don't see it as disrespectful. He was brought in to do a job, and he's done it. I have had jobs like this in the past, on a contract to perform a specific task. When the task is performed, I was dismissed, and I didn't feel I had been treated disrespectfully in the slightest. It might be unusual in football but it isn't in life. And Adkins had no experience of the premier league either. Neither did Mourinho when he went to Chelsea by the way. I don't think that's the be all and end all. He is well-regarded in Spain, he worked in difficult circumstances at Espanyol and did well. It's a totally different kettle of fish. You're right of course, how am I doing? To be clear though, I don't say people are ignorant because they disagree with me, only because they are not drawing logical conclusions based on known facts. And comparing a well-regarded manager from La Liga to a cheap Dutchman is not logical. Yeah, this is concerning. But it was the same when Pardew was sacked, and no-one knew who Adkins was. Give the new guy a chance and let's see what he can achieve.
Just so I understand where you are coming from Pass the football....Do you actually think this was a good move for SFC and will increase the likelihood of us staying in the Prem this season?
But this is the point. He hasn't done it. He has just had the rug pulled under him as he was starting to achieve what he wanted. We are looking very solid and performing very well. It has been a steep learning curve, but for the first time all season the last couple of weeks I have been 100%confident of staying up. Now, truthfully, I think we have massively dropped our chances of avoiding relegation. You're wrong. Nigel has had 6 months premier league experience now, and is improving all the time. Not to mention he has the respect of the sqaud, fans and players. "Together as one" He is hardly that well-regarded in Spain. This I agree with. We should all back him. But you need to get off your high horse a bit and understand why a lot of people are upset.
The appoinment makes no sense. He was sacked in November having picked up only 9 points! Cant believe the amount of texts ive had from people saying wtf have saints done, stupid decision etc. If we end up releagted how on earth will this man turn the team around next season? Decisions like these make me hate football. It makes me feel like a mug for loyally supporting a team and putting my faith into it!
I honestly don't know, as I say, only time will tell. It probably won't increase the likelihood of us staying up this season, but I am still confident we will do. But it will allow us to attract better players and perhaps do better next season than we would had Adkins still been in charge. That's clearly the rationale behind the move anyway and I can understand it. As I say, only in time will we know if this was a good move or not, so it seems premature to judge now. With all due respect, you have given me your opinion here, not facts. He was brought in to get us promoted, he did that. I'm not 'wrong' to state that Adkins had no premier league experience before this season. Pochettino was linked to the Real Madrid job recently, so he's clearly better regarded in Spain than you think. He wasn't sacked, he left by mutual consent after being told they had no money to spend, and having had all his best players sold from under him.
One thing I just realized...at least one Saints player will have a good idea of Pochettino before he sets foot in training. Fonte's brother Rui has been at Espanyol for the better part of two seasons.
I would be very happy with a 33% win ratio. NA will find a job soon, football is a hard business. NC has been proved correct in the past when he appointed NA. Players change and managers change but chairmen do not. I will miss NA but am hoping its for the best
Because he's a well-known international footballer. Adkins was a reserve goalkeeper for Tranmere Rovers. No disrespect to Adkins, who is a fine manager, clearly, but when you're trying to bring in a bright young kid from Spain or Italy, these kinds of things make a difference.
