Nigel to Blackpool, I feel sick.
Well, the kids have been telling me to spend more time with them, Cortese might just have freed up a bit of time. Last time I felt this sad about football, the little yelow bar said 'Just days from going out of business'.
The football world will hate us for this, anyone who thinks the new guy will slot straight in is in dream land.
    Bad call Nic, bad call.

All the neutrals were happy with how Southampton were getting on in their return to the premiership . Now everybody will want to see you fail after one of the most bizarre decisions I can ever recall in football .

Am angry about what has happened and expect a lot of chanting before the match, but the team need our support. I will never accept relegation as Cortese getting his just desserts...I want Saints to stay up this season. Baby and bathwater comes to mind.

Why is it that people who express a concern with how the club is run are considered 'idiots'? As fans of a football club, people have the right to boycott matches or show their displeasure with how things are going and that does not make them idiots or lesser fans. Indeed, I think people who blindly support the club regardless of how it is run are more likely to be seen as idiots IMO. Of course, during a game get behind the team and cheer them on, but if you choose not to attend a game because you don't like the way things are run, that's fair enough. If you choose to protest before and/or after a game, that's fair enough and you have every right to.

Its very hard to fathom as was the dismissal of Pardew. I can only speculate that it has something to do with the murky world of the transfer window (maybe Nigel was too honest to thrive in that area?).

Bristol City fan here. Really gutted about Adkins. This decision just gives hope to the other teams around you, as it can only make you a weaker club. Adkins would have been my first choice for our club, but I never thought he would really become available. He will go on to do really well (as he has already for you and Scunthorpe). I hope you do sing about him all afternoon on Saturday. Best of luck to you, (but not to your Board of Directors).

I've calmed down enough to realise that boycotting games is not the way to go.

    QPR fan in peace.

I'm very sorry to hear of this. The guy has dragged SFC from the lowest they could possibly get, right up to the Premier League. And not only that, he looked odds on to keep you there.

I don't know the ins and outs of your Club but having watched your meteoric rise from the doldrums over the last couple of seasons, this looks like a disgraceful decision to me.
What on earth are your owners thinking? Unbelievable.

Like I say, I'm sorry to hear about this lads.

Will they though? If this was indeed planned since before the Chelsea game, why would we assume they didn't know?

A lot of posters on here are very angry and I can understand that. Myself, I am just really sad about what has happened. I am going to miss Nigel's enthusiasm for the game and his relentless positivity.

Some have also indicated that they will not support the new manager, or even the club, and think that we are now more likely to go down. Sorry, I don't get that and frankly it's an indulgance which we can't afford. I am a Saints fan. If he plays or manages the Saints then whoever gets my support and as for those calling for a boycott of the Everton game, I hope that they change their minds.
I do not hate Cortese. I am very surprised that he has made this decision and time will tell whether it was the right call. I remember him sacking Alan Pardew and appointing Nigel Adkins and thinking, "who?". Fortunately it is not me making those decisions. Those who compare NC to Lowe are entirely wide of the mark. I believe that this has happened for exactly the reasons which he gave on the official statement. I cannot help but recall Nigel's comments just after we won promotion, where he almost seemed to expect this to happen.
It's the nature of modern football and is the consequence of the ambition which Marcus, through Cortese, had for the club. It's not comfortable at a family club like Saints, but I for one will be there to cheer on the Saints, and I will also join in a chant of "one Nigel Adkins". It's not disloyal to the new man, any more than it was when we sung "one Alan Pardew"

He may well have contacts in the spanish league that we can get some good transfers from - the same way Laudrup has done at Swansea.

    Might be apostive?

Shame for Nigel - got to wonder what more could he have done? Is there a case for unfair dismissal?
