That's two successive promotions, a fantastic brand of attacking football, ever improving results and a place outside the relegation zone in Southampton's first Premier League season in seven years, deemed not good enough. Absolutely moronic decision.
i really don't know which part is more moronic. sacking adkins or appointing a man who was bottom of la liga with espanyol when he was sacked! as far as i'm aware, the new guy doesn't even speak english!! they deserve pelters for this decision, they really do.
Just seen a great shout on the Southampton board: Atkins to replace Lambert and keep Villa up at Southampton's expense. The new guy, anyone rate him? I know Espanyol sacked him, but that's about it.
I have to say that QPR have proven that their Moral compass is completely off this season and now Saints have gone and made this utterly ridiculous decision to make Tony Fernandes' sanity seem a little more stable The world of football has started to rot away from the inside and quite honestly I don't think I can keep up with the quickening Managerial Merry go round. What else could the guy have done to keep his job? On the flip side I doubt he'll out of work for long as someone else will be looking for a manager soon.
They had great team spirit beforehand, which is always useful in a relegation fight. It'll be decimated now.
he has a reputation as a great developer of youth and his record was pretty good until last year but its a bizarre appointment, no question. he's not a bad manager by any means but the fact he can't even speak english is enough to say it will end in tears
Seems utter madness! I like Southampton;and I like their fans. But I hope this goes wrong. I smiled at the thought of Adkins at Villa.
i believe this means that more than half the managers who started the 2012-13 season in charge of the 92 clubs have now been replaced by january 18th 2013. utterly ridiculous. football continues to eat itself
The board didn't like him!! They were waiting for an excuse to sack him for some time now. When it hasn't come they just did it anyway!!
Do the people who make these decisions realise what they really want to achieve? What the hell is their thinking? Saints look well capable of staying up, and that, along with us and Wigan et al etc, is success. The morals and ethics of Sport in general are taking being massively undermined at the moment and it is going way too far.
There's a very unwelcome trend developing (at an alarming rate) here. Blackburn, Forest, now Southampton......my gut feeling says Leeds will be next to throw the baby out with the bath water. How reassuring we still have auntie Delia at the helm

Auntie reminds me of the BBC unfortunately and that is equally corrupt. How about, topically, Saint Delia?
Every saints fan is absolutely gutted, shocking news and a shocking decision. It's fair to say that whatever team appoints Adkins will have most saints fans supporting them too! Top manager and a top bloke. Wish him all the best.
