I haven't written in this site for many months but now I have to. This is just beyond words. I cannot believe it. What to do now? For the first time ever (even during our darkest hours) I hate the club (Cortese!) for doing this.

When it looked liked we would be relegated, many of my friends said they'd rather go down with Adkins than bring in someone new. Thats how much they liked him. Now, just when things are looking good...this. How can this be good for the team and the club.

Ever since he was here, we had the best team spirit ever.

Bugger. Don't really want to go on Monday. How about a boycott to show what we think?

Get ready for continuous belting out of "Theres only one Nigel Adkins!" on Monday. Glad I'm not going. Going to be a rather uncomfortable atmosphere

The worst thing about this all is knowing Adkins will end up at somewhere like Blackburn and work wonders with them.

This is just absolutely ludicrous. We are a family club, we don't expect to win loads but we expect to treat every saint with respect and like they are family. Adkins was a saint through and through. We could've got Mourinho, I would still be angry. Sentimentality isn't in football much these days but we had a great combination of having the nicest manager around whilst also having one of the best young English managers. **** off Cortese with your bullshit, this isn't like Pardew, this is so much worse and I'd be damned if I get another season ticket to watch some soulless Argentinian rag doll rule our team. One Nigel Adkins- the best Saints' manager in my lifetime.

    Executive Chairman, Nicola Cortese said:

“This decision has been made with the long-term ambitions of Southampton Football Club in mind. Whilst we acknowledge the contribution Nigel has made during the past two years, for the Club to progress and achieve our long-term targets a change was needed.

“Mauricio is a well-respected coach of substantial quality who has gained a reputation as an astute tactician and excellent man manager. I have every confidence that he will inspire our talented squad of players to perform at the highest possible level.

“He also shares my belief that the most successful clubs are built by nurturing young players through a development system that provides a clear path to the First Team, thereby creating a culture that keeps them at the Club for the long term. This is an approach he has employed with great success in the past and I look forward to him bringing that experience and expertise to Southampton.”

Southampton First Team Manager, Mauricio Pochettino added:

“This is the kind of opportunity that any coach would relish. Southampton is a club with great heritage, and an even more exciting future. There is a clear vision to take the Club to a new era of sustained success in the Premier League, and beyond, which I’m delighted to be part of.”

This is why that Forren deal crawled on...he may have been left up the swannie as well. A journalist said he wanted to be reassured he was wanted by the manager...thought that was strange at the time.

Remember the dire situation in league 1 when there was the very real threat of Southampton going into liquidation and then Liebherr and Cortese coming in to save the club?

Adkins wasn't part of the beginning and he joined and was massively successful at Saints.

Him leaving now means his record puts him in good stead for another job - 1 loss in 7 matches and two consecutive promotions.

If Saints were going to sack him I don't think there would have been a better chance to do it.

Let's get behind the team and see what manager comes in COYR?

Who else can see the positives?

I personally would have kept Adkins.

    Executive Chairman, Nicola Cortese said:

“This decision has been made with the long-term ambitions of Southampton Football Club firmly ignored. Whilst we acknowledge the contribution Nigel has made during the past two years, we are going to categorically ignore this and for the Club to be relegated and to ensure complete alienation of fans, a change was needed.

“Mauricio is a fairly unknown coach of substantial quality who can't speak English, and has gained a reputation as an average tactician and excellent friend of mine. I have every confidence that he will upset our talented squad of players to perform below their ability.

“He also shares my belief that the I am the most important person at the club, and that what I say is gospel. Thereby I have created a situation where Go Marching In has very annoyingly been shown to be right. This is an approach I have employed with great success in the past and I look forward to upsetting fans and team alike yet further.”

Southampton First Team Manager, Mauricio Pochettino added:

“Eh.....eh? I no speaka di Eeeenglish.”

Cortese's explanation will be something mealy-mouthed about ambition, though, as his initial statement was. Nothing that addresses the crux of the situation
