I was just wondering whether we could have matched the 30k per week that Cardiff are supposedly offering Campbell if it would have given us a better chance of getting promotion? Do we need to speculate to accumulate here as I don't think we will have a better chance to go up? I don't want us to end up with some haz bin for a striker and lose out to Cardiff with Elmohamady. Starting to get worried here, but tempered with an element of excitement too. Squeaky bum none the less!!
We have negative 3.5 million. Brady and Meyler were purchased with next seasons transfer money. We only had money for loans according to the club.
Allams said they would fund prem wages for half a season to secure promotion. There is no way in hell FC is worth 30k a year though and I think the majority would be pissed if he came here on that much.
£30k a week on a long term deal, for a striker who's managed 27 appearances and 2 goals in the last three seasons. We certainly shouldn't be trying to match deals like that, it's a ****ing ridiculous deal.
I dont really see us getting a quality striker in to be honest. Elmo I see coming back, stockdale i see joining but I cant see us getting in a striker.
If we don't sign a striker, we have little chance of going up, that's why we'll definitely sign a striker.
Spot on, I'd be more pissed off we was paying him £28-£30k a week than Iam the fact he isn't coming here
I agree on the first part but a quality striker? Who? Unless the owners are going to toss out the kind of money to buy Becchio who else could we get that is real quality?
It's a question of the thin dividing line between making a good decision and making a bad one. Last season we didn't invest and it undoubtedly cost us a place in the play-offs. This season we certainly have invested and you could argue we need to invest more. But offering big wages like that used to seal the Campbell deal for Cardiff smacks of desperation. He is MASSIVELY over-valued considering his record. Glad we didn't compete. I suspect SB knew what FC and his father were like and that he expected what eventually happened, and that was why he never actually put an offer in. Whilst I don't believe half of the "Smokescreen" rubbish that people purport to explain away just about every wrongful transfer prediction, I do think Steve Bruce has something up his sleeve .
30K a year for Campbell is crazy money. If SB has a trick up his sleeve then I see that trick coming from another league or outside of England. There just arnt that many proven strikers available in January and the ones that are tend to go for big bucks.
I'm not saying they couldnt, I'm saying FC isnt worth that much money, and its good business sense not to match it. I'm sure if the likes of Danny Graham were available they would pay his wages in full for the rest of the season, as that would make good business sense.
i reckon Brucie has about another 1.5 million left in the pot, and a wage figure of no more than 15k per week for any of our top players, or incoming players the agent fees will be loads, and at 15k per week, if we are looking at buying a player for around 1.5million - the whole deal over a 3 year contract would be around 5 million
That just isn't true. Most people would have accepted him back, but universally would have baulked at the wages being offered.
I'll think you'll find that opinion was divided. The only thing we care about is getting a decent striker in on a deal that makes sense financially to the club.
I dont want us to be paying anyone 30 grand a week when were in the Premiership never mind in the championship.
