Aparantly football clubs have 7 days from their last match to announce their retained list so I guess we'll hear by Friday at the latest

    From This is Kent website:

GILLS boss Andy Hessenthaler names his retained list tonight (Wednesday) or tomorrow. Don’t be surprised if you find at least 10 of last season’s squad have been shown the door.

There are 14 players out of contract and with Hessy this week claiming many of the squad know what’s coming it could be he’ll be looking for goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and strikers during the close season.

Chances are he will not renew the contracts of either keeper (Alan Julian and Lance Cronin) and that the likes of Mark Bentley, Mark McCammon, John Nutter, Kevin Maher, Josh Gowling, Connor Essam, Dean Rance, Andy White and Tony Sinclair will be released.

The only ones who will be offered terms, according to those close to the club, will be Andy Barcham, Joe Martin, Bayo Akinfenwa and Chris Palmer.

Ok, as there is the obvious interest during the remainder of this week of who stays and who goes, also considering this seems to be the main point for discussions on this topic, I'm making this a sticky thread, for the time being, so everyone can discuss comings and goings on here.

    Hope no one objects.

Those out of contract were As far as I know the following are out of contract: Julian, Nutter, Maher, Bentley, McDonald (obviously), Barcham, Palmer, McCammon, Gowling, White, Rance, Essam, Akinfenwa, Martin. The club have an option on Cronin and Sinclair and Bentley is on an appearance-based extention. But I doubt 24 games is enough. I am sure Lawrence mentioned being on an appearance-based deal during an interview. I could be wrong!

Those in contract are Fuller, King, Richards, Weston, Rooney, Spiller, Jackman, Oli, S Payne and Jack Payne (until 2013) and of course Nicky Southall. Then there are the new youth players Hawkes, Davies, Brunt, Evans and Brown.

So by a process of elimination he's offered contracts to Barcham, Palmer, Lawrence, Rance, Essam, Akinfenwa and Martin.

Think a big thank you to Mark Bentley. Served the Gills well over the last 5 years. All the best for the future.

Here's to Bentley. Served us well and one of my favourite players. Unfortunately he's lost his pace in recent years and considering he likes to play Centre Back or in Midfield, I don't think he could be a regular in the team. Can see him going back to Cambridge

    Cheers Mark :emoticon-0167-beer:

Can't disagree with any of those - KOL seems to suggest that Maher, Bayo, Barcham & Palmer have all been offered new deals, however also understanding that they will be on a reduced rate.

Lawrence seems to have played enough games to trigger an automatic one-year extension. Good news in my book.

Now, the tricky part. As always I keep an eye out close season for any activity as in players who have been released from other clubs, realistic targets please, that we could look at bringing in. I say we devote a few posts to looking around this subject. Don't forget also to view the PFA site in a few weeks as they are again likely to post up the available players in an order to get them a club. How about:-

Dean Brill - Goalkeeper, former loanee at Priestfield has been released by Oldham.
Reuben Reid - set the lower leagues alight recently with Rotherham, clinched a big move to WBA but his career hasn't really moved on from there. Again released by Oldham.
Calvin Zola - Released by Crewe, however seems like on his day he could just be another McCammon....

    Any more to follow?...

can't believe were offering maher a contract and then not offering bently one. thought bentley still had alot to offer as a squad player due to his versitility and his height offers something different when were chasing games on the right or defending in the middle instead of spiller or payne
