Where the sun never stops shining
What was your first Norwich City match (home or away)? I am guessing most people would have seen them at home first.

What was memorable about it?


My baptism was one of fire.

November 1976 home to West Ham.
I do not remember much about the game itself other than Ted MacDougal scored and we won 1-0. What was memorable and sadly a regular feature on the mid 70's (and onwards) was the crowd trouble.
West Ham fans that day, as did others during the season, decided to infiltrate the Barclay and create havoc. Fighting all over the place.
Thankfully I was in the River End that day!
 
I used to go with my dad all the time (aparantly) when i was a wee ankle licker - I cannot remember the first game i went to as I was so young - probably 5-6 ish!!!

My first real memory has to be a game vs Crystal palace must have been 1999-2000 ish as i was about 10-11, it was my birthday and I went with some school friends ( i remember it was my first game without "adult" company )!!! cannot remember the score, all i remember is Iwan scoring and I was in the front row of the barclay - going absolutely mental and I can still remember hearing the legend himself screaming with celebrations!!! Quality moment!!!!
 
Remember the West Ham match well as I was in middle pen of the Barclay when it all literally kicked off.

I recall Ted scored pretty near the end of the match and as we started to celebrate all hell let loose.

Apart from the kicking we received my main memory is along with two mates featuring in a large picture on the front page of the Evening News on the Monday as the 'Ugly Face of Hoolaganism'.

I would point out that the picture did show two of us walking round the pitch with the other being carried by a St John's Ambulance guy to the first aid post behind the old River End. Gained us enormous street cred at school for afew days although my mum who up to that point believed I stood with my dad in the River End was not too impressed with either of us.

First game I really remember was against QPR in the mid 60's. All I recall was I sat on a cushion on a bench in old Main Stand and got told off for stamping my feet too loudly on the wooden floorboards. I wonder what that no doubt long departed old fart would have thought of things now?
 
My first game was at home against Man City, February 1993. We won 2-1 with Mark Robins and Lee Power scoring.

It was a school trip, which was pretty cool, I remember it because Roy Waller said after the game it was the first time in someting like 40 years that we'd beaten Man City. The next game I saw was a year later and was an incredibly boring 0-0 with Swindon. I swear we were the only team who failed to score against them that season.

The only away game I've managed to get to was the Play-off final in Cardiff.
 
The dullest 0-0 draw I've ever seen, against Bury, sometime between 97 and 99? So bored by it I didn't go again for a few years. Now, I'd pretty much do anything to spend my saturday afternoons at Carrow Road
 
:embarrassed:Away at St. James park against Newcastle 2-2 draw Bently and the Doc scored it was and is the only time I have seen Norwich play due to financial reasons heres hoping tho. OTBC
 
At home to Bristol City. Evening game. I was totally enthralled by Norwich and went home telling my mum proudly that we had won 2 - 2.
My first away match was when I was staying with my grandparents. My dad took me to see Leicester play Derby. Apparently my dad was not too impressed as his young 6 year old son proudly shouted, " Cor dad. These are rubbish. Norwich could beat both of these".
 
At home to Bradford City in the Coca-Cola Cup. 2nd round, 2nd leg. Wednesday 6th October 1993. I was 6. Can't remember a great deal about the game but Paul Jewell was playing for Bradford and we won 3-0 (4-2 on aggregate). I guess it could be described as being during our peak. Fell in love with the game that night.
 
Norwich v Crystal Palace in the old Division 1 - the loser to be relegated.1972/3 I think. We wend a goal down in the first half ,came back to 2-1 and stayed up.
 
Not really sure if this counts, but was born on Alan Rd up from Carrow Road and my old man used to take me up to Black Tower from where you could see about a quarter of the pitch through the gap between the old city stand and river end..circa 1978. Always remember saying to my Dad about the roar and he'd walk me up there to satisfy my early hunger. First real game was Brighton and Hove Albion Reserves vs Norwich Reserves: 0-O. Sat in the City stand about 1984. First 'Proper' home game vs Everton - won 1-0. Was up the River End with my big sister. Saw the writhing mass of the Barclay and away supporters and then stood up there from the next home game and on between 1986-91.Loved it when we scored and I was catapulted in any mental direction the crowd deigned to seeth. Now miles away but my heart still sits overlooking the Barclay goal at the green army banging in the goals. Best years of my life. OTBC

Good post CC, makes me think just how much my heart is with our beloved club.
Although a season ticket holders for many years and a frequent away supporter, it was not until I left UK for Asia that I realised just how attached I have become to the Canaries.

The night we won at Portsmouth & listening to the celebrations after the Coventry home game made me realise exactly how much of my heart was still at Carrow Road. I was crying because I could not be there to witness it all - who said big boys don't cry? It's bollocks, we do sometimes <ok>
 
The most boring 0-0 draw you've ever seen in your life, vs Reading, late 90s I would say at a guess?!

Second game was a 5-0 drubbing of Stockport, much better. Used to sit in the old south stand under the asbestos. What a hole that was!

Too right Thai - I've had as many goosebumps this season as the last 5 combined - that BBC commentary vs Derby when Simeon scored at the death pretty much summed it all up for me - that was when the light at the end of the tunnel started shining that little bit brighter. And yes, big boys do cry! Have a good summer Thai
