We aren't likely to know the truth unless Colo himself tells us.

Too big a story for the press to leave alone. The alleged infidelity isn't going to go away in a hurry and we'll no doubt be having more names being mentioned.

I reckon this "false illness" is just a conspiracy theory - Colo is a genuine bloke, and a model professional. I also assume nufc would ask for medical records for proof if they were to eventually cancel the contract, as it would be a big legal process to ensure it was done correctly.

Some of the readers' comments are classic!

Yes, there is something very strange going on. You almost get the feeling that San Lorenzo have got some kind of hold on Colo, they seem so incredibly sure of themselves and don't seem to feel that they are being at all unreasonable. It's like "Get your ass back here on the double, Monday is the deadline. We're calling the shots!"

Yes, I agree Fredd. If it was just about fulfilling his alleged "dream" of playing for SL, he wouldn't have signed a 4 year contract at NUFC or bought a new house there a few months ago. It certainly looked as though he had every intention of staying at Newcastle.

I wish he was able to explain the situation as I don't like the idea that people are thinking he's a disloyal, traitorous lowlife who never cared about NUFC, and some more clarity might put the allegations of pregnant 19-year-olds and Jesmond love-nests to bed (pun very much intended).

SL's attitude is very odd. Real Madrid, sure. A club I never heard of 3 weeks ago ? Not unless something is going on which is just inexplicable.

As for the infedility story: this is a professional footballer we're talking about ? Does anyone give up a 4 year multi-million pound contract over an unexpected relation ? I don't recall Giggs suddenly wanting to play in Wales.

Every explanation seems as unlikely as the others.

    Wonder if we'll ever know.

This situation is beyond belief, even bu Newcastles standards.
San Lorenzo..... We want your player, we believe he is then best CB in the EPL
We have no money to buy him with
We want his decision by next week ,or..... We get someone else
He has personal problems, don't you know, we are so caring and shring, we will bring him back home, how wonderful ate we, Sainted San Lorenzo..... As for Newcastle...
Yes, we understand you do not wish tonsell him, but thats okay, we are not gonna buy him, just take him out of pure compassion.
What you are in a relegation situation, yes the timing is bad...but, think of the poor homesick Colo.
If you do not let him go, you are heartless bar stewards,
If you make him stay, he will just stand on the halfway line and cry all match, or do a Tevez !
Just classic, let's put this into perspective,
He signed a new contract not so long ago, therefore he is under contract
We have no obligation to terminate it, or let him leave, fee or no fee
We cannot allow ourselves to be railroaded or bullied
San Lorenzo are tapping him up and unsettling our player, is this allowed ?
People will say, he'll either stop playing or go AWOL if we don't let him go...
I say let him, and the club should let him rot on the bench or sue him,
If he has personal problems, then that's a shame, are they of his own doing? We don't know, isnhisnwife sick ? We don't know, we do have medical services in this country.
I know this may appear hard, but as we keep being reminded, this is business and our club is in real trouble ATM. Whatever his reasons Colo's timing is awful and he must know that.
I say we play hardball, tell San Lorenzo to clear off, report them to FIFA and tell Colo he stays till the end of the season when the situation will be reviewed.
We have no choice in my opinion, but to do what's needed for our survival.

Homesickness was suggested, seems odd considering how long it is since he lived in Argentina, I would definitely discard that, the rest of it a case of 'Who the hell knows'
Some of the stories emerging were also doing the rounds when the whole country was guessing 'Who had the Gagging orders'. If I remember correctly, during that time Steven Gerrard was supposed to have got some very young girl pregnant, pretty much the same being said about Colo.
If he goes or stays, will we ever know the truth, either the club, or Colo's people will have the spin doctors doing there thing, it's becoming tedious now.

It's very unfortunate what's happening with his wife, but we need a good price for him. He's one of our best players.

If San Lorenzo want him that much, they can pay up.

Amen to this. The South American correspondent from the BBC said pretty much the same thing. Stems from some presidential election at San Lorenzo, which was won by a group containing his dad. And it's all his dad's doing. Contract is a contract, I'm pretty sure he's got to see it through and can't just "walk away". Besides which we'd be able to sue San Lorenzo, which would see them screwed. The BBC guy had a decent idea - why not let Colo go, but instead of cash set up a feeder arrangement and take 4 or 5 players immediately. They could all be loaned out to a Spanish side to get the playing time, then join Newcastle in due course.

Actually, if it's that big of a deal to Colo, why doesn't he pay off the rest of his contract?

If his wifes health is that important, then he can fork out a few million to end his contract early.

The thing is, we don't actually know what is the reasons for him wishing to leave are, the lack of info from the club is giving rise to ugly rumours, Mrs Coloccini is rumoured to have left the children behind, I couldn't bear to be parted from my kids, if anyone uses school as a reason to leave them, wont they be leaving school permanently if they rerturn home?
    Just a big mess really!

Not something many people would do, but then again we don't know the circumstances and for the sake of the kids alone, the press could stand back on the story until they have some facts. Not that it's any of our business anyway, these things happen in life.

Apparently she took the kids with her? But no one knows.

I don't think a parent should be allowed to take their kids away to a foreign country without the other parent, or at least permission from the other parent. It would be just as hard on a loving father than a loving mother.

Even if the pregnancy rumour was true, I still don't understand why he would have to leave the country. Bit late for that, I'd say.

I really don't believe it anyway -- too much of a cliche as he's a footballer. People just make these things up.

My view confirmed by the fact that his kids are still in Newcastle. Surely his wife would not have stormed off and left the kids there if that was the situation.

Whatever the truth is, they have allowed a huge amount of attention to be drawn to it by letting it drag on without explanations.

Must say, this makes the infedelity rumour seem even more unlikely.

And I must say,I think Colo will try ot put in a shift for us while he is wearing the shirt. Obviously, unhappy players don't play as well as happy ones, but he doesn't strike me as the sort who would sabotage his game out of spite.
