Spot on. Anybody who thinks that spending even more money in our precarious position is not a gamble is for the birds. Don't often agree with swords but he's right on this one. It's an almighty gamble. Thrilled with the last few games but we have a long way to go yet. Building confidence and momentum is huge. We are now doing both. Two weeks ago I was all but convinced we were deffo down. Now, I'm daring to hope again. All I wanted was to see our players have some fu**ing pride in our jersey. To do the right thing by our incredible fans. Harry is achieving this but not so sure he has enough games to get us out of the sh**e. I will be praying to god over the next few months like never before that he looks down on us favourably. Otherwise da wife and kids will be in for a miserable summer with my bad mood.

Fair points, but at least I am beginning to enjoy myself again. After the Liverpool game my motivation and energy to drag myself to LR was at an all time low (possibly associated with over consumption at Christmas and the roadworks on the Western Avenue as well as that horrific performance).

We are definitely gambling, but the reward for that is not only Prem riches but avoidance of a minimum 46 soul destroying Championship games. And if it does all go tits up financially, we've been through that before and (just) survived. Anything than be another prudent Norwich......

I hope we take an early lead against West Ham then waste time mercilessly like they did against us........I'll take that back, time wasting for me is an even worse cheat than diving, as it robs the paying spectators of entertainment. I'll settle for a third away win of the year.

You are right, it's a gamble on our Premiership survival (but I disagree on how 'Massive' a gamble it is).

But that's not my earlier point. What I'm asking is this.....Some on here (not pointing any fingers at individuals 'cos to be honest I can't remember who) were adamant that we shouldn't be attempting to buy premiership class players to stay up this season, instead opting for players who could have the fight for the Championship next season and to get promotion next year. Seems with the possible signing of players like Remy and M'Vila, the club have truly gone for the former.

As I say, not having a pop at anyone, just curious if these last few weeks have changed any minds.

It's a good question Staines. I was very firmly in the "don't gamble, buy quality Championship players" camp, and I think to some degree I still am. If the gamble works out then, fantastic, I will be only to delighted to have been wrong. But I'm still not completely convinced that buyin stars on high wages is the right thing to do. I confess, I didn't expect us to be able to attract the likes of Remy, which had edged me slightly more towards the "buy" camp than I was, but I guess I'm still fairly pessimistic! It's hard to answer that question Staines, when we don't know who exactly is funding these purchases. One thing is for absolute certain here. Our stadium and current fan base can't sustain us spending tens of millions on top players. Bigger clubs than us can't afford to do it. We are still not certain how much of this if any is being bankrolled by the Mittals. If our Asian owners and the Mittals are happy to splash their cash, then I'm quite happy for them to do so. Who's to say for absolute certainty though that's the case. How do we know that our club is not being saddled again with a massive debt. It's happened once already. Surely our fans should be more cautious than most.
In light of the fact that we know we are spending more money than we are generating, I think people were justified in saying that purchasing more expensive mercenaries was possibly foolhardy and instead let's build success slowly and steadily
Of course we are delighted that our team is finding form. We are all QPR fans but I for one cannot feel completely at ease until I know where and how these men are financing spending that all other clubs and their supporters see as exorbitant and excessive. Sorry Staines, just my thoughts.

Very concise and honest answers lads, thanks :).

I do hope some of your concerns are unjustified (As we probably all do as Rangers fans).
Shame we havnt got a crystal ball to see into the future but until then it's gonna be a bloody exciting ride !!

I'm chomping at the bit with excitement. Still finding it hard to believe that our club can attract players like Cesar, Granero, Mbia and now Remy. Hope we can turn our season around and build success with a superb manager at the helm. If we stay up much of my fears will disappear with the vast sums of money available through SKY. If..... ......

Well said TIME. The facts are (I know some on here don't like dealing with them) that this is our fourth transfer window in a row that we've shelled out a load of dosh on big names on big wages. Up to this point it hasn't worked. Some might say its been nothing short of disastrous. And if you look at the League table, we're bottom. We need to average exactly one and a half points per game between now and the end of the season to finish on the magic 38.

Of course its all possible and I'd love it if we pulled it off. But it IS an almighty gamble and no amount of pie in the sky from Staines or anyone else will change that FACT!

All we need is to win 2 more games than the 3 teams above! Easily doable the way we are playing now, especially as the others above us are dropping like lead balloons.

Lol Swords, you are a right one you :)

Please, please tell me where this ALMIGHTY gamble is 'cos honestly I can't see it. If we do go down players will be sold, wages are taken off the books and we fight to go straight back up again.
As said by others on another thread...We are not Pompey, our owners (I believe) havnt borrowed money from banks or financial institutions to pay for our players and I can't see them walking away, at a loss, IF we did go down.

It might be 'pie in the sky' and I might be deluded (you are probably right on that one actually) BUT until someone can give me actual FACTS on why we are doomed upon relegation I just can't see it.

Players that can be sold will be sold - for a lot less than we paid for them. Players that didn't have clauses inserted into their contracts and can't be sold will continue to bleed the Club dry with their huge salaries. Remember, it only took one player - Jimmy Bullard - to almost drive Hull City to the wall. How many Jimmy Bullards have we got? The revenue in the NPC is a pittance compared to the PL. Our Ground and its entire season ticket sales don't generate that much more money than we pay our Goalkeepers alone in wages.

We've spent more money on transfers and wages since Promotion than any other PL Club of our size. I would guess we've outspent nearly everyone other than the big 6. We're third in the whole Country at shelling out on agents fees - 7 million last year alone. Pompey, Luton, Leeds etc all destroyed themselves with such extravagance yet at the time their fans consoled themselves with the notion that their owners wouldn't leave them in the shi*ter - just like you're doing. We have no idea where all this money is coming from. If you do then you're a better man than me.

I put it to you Staines, that if you "honestly can't see" this huge gamble we're taking then you are, my good Sir, for the birds.

It is a gamble, but not as big as some seem to be saying imo. These two are genuinely good players, M'Vila with 22 France caps at the age of 22 (think they were accumulated when he was 21) and being pursued for upwards of £25m a season ago and Remy similarly, pursued for £20m last year which was rejected and had Arsenal sniffing around him too. Wenger knows his Frenchman. How many clubs were in for SWP, Ferdinand, Park etc when we bought them? None at all I'd wager.

These players will have a value even if we do go down, players like Ferdinand, Young, SWP, Zamora, Park, Johnson, Green will not. This is nowhere near as a big a gamble as the previous transfer windows were as things stand and taking into account the players we've been linked with or have signed so far (this could all change of course if we start signing journeymen again).

Unless you are privee to contracts and get out clauses Swords, I still don't see any facts there bruv.
You also don't mention the parachute payments (45 mill over 3 years ??) which surely is a major factor.
And if these mercenaries on massive wages did stay with us, surely don't you think they would be of such a calibre to get us straight back up again.
I would be more worried next season as if we didn't go straight back up then of course it gets harder but this season I personally think the doom merchants like yourself are forecasting a 'Mayan Christmas'.

    Tweet, tweet, tweet. :)

There were a couple of threads done a long time ago in which it was stated that Hughes' agent didn't put in any relegation clauses into the contracts of his players. I can't remember who said it but someone did an article on it (maybe Whittingham?) and it had us all hot and bothered at the time. Its not my fault if you can't remember these threads Staines and I certainly ain't gonna go searching for them! Since then, Hughes' and Joorabchian's cronyism has come to light even more, so I don't see why you'd now think that they did everything in a right and proper manner with the contracts when everything else they did was disastrous!

Staines, I love ye man and I don't want to disrespect you but that sentence alone betrays a naivety and a lack of football knowledge that I didn't expect from you.
If our mercenaries couldn't get it up for the Premier League, why in the World would you think they'd be up for Barnsley on a cold tuesday night and a division that is notoriously merciless towards big time charlies and their egos? Don't you remember Chris Kiwomya? Neil Ruddock? Mike Sheron?

Sheron ? I he that ginger bloke who makes records ?

In all seriousness mate, we aren't gonna convince ourselves that the other is right are we and only time will tell which of us is.
