This is a new one. Cove mentioned this lad a while back. I'd definitely take him.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2262633/Newcastle-set-bid-9m-Ajaxs-Siem-Jong.html

Newcastle are planning to bring the brilliant Ajax captain Siem de Jong to the Premier League in a £9million deal that will show their transfer ambition.

De Jong, 23, is a playmaker who can play either in midfield or attack. He can also play as an old-fashioned No 10 and his capture will excite the Newcastle fans.

He has scored seven goals in 18 league games this season and this Swiss-born attacker would light up St James’ Park.

Although a relegation battle appears to be looming, this is no panic bid by Alan Pardew. Instead he sees De Jong as a player who will bring a turnaround in their fortunes.
De Jong played in the Champions League earlier this season, with Ajax pitted against Manchester City, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in a tough group.

The Holland star netted three times in two games against City as Roberto Mancini's men were sent crashing out.

He has two years remaining on his Ajax contract and while wages wont be a problem to Newcastle, sources in Holland say he is eager to run down his deal and move on a free.

Pardew and his team of scouts will have to overcome that and convince him now is the time to move to the Premier League.

Pardew is planning a push for the Champions League places next season and wants to pack his team with more quality. It is understood he is particularly keen to link De Jong with French midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Pardew also wants to show Cabaye - missing for much of the season with injury - that Newcastle are prepared to buy big.

With QPR winning the race to sign of French forward Loic Remy from Marseille, the move for the much-wanted De Jong is Pardew’s next move.

De Jong is being pursued by German Bundesliga clubs and his brother, Luuk already plays for Borussia Monchengladbach.

I chose to not bother getting aboard if that's ok? It's easier because I know fine well it's fruitless.

exactly I think it's high time we looked at the bottom of our list given time is running out and it takes us two weeks to fail at a signature.

Although it looks like we are already on the green list given the bid for another teenager.

De Jong is a beast, saw him in the Man City - Ajax match, if he can reproduce that form here he's more than welcome.

That said, will need to offer a good bit more than £9m if we don't want to get laughed out of town (again). This would be a great signing, not a trophy signing but could really see a turnaround if we get him.

    My Blog:
    http://www.not606.com/entry.php/1547-January-transfer-targets-Eredivisie-Market

Quote: Siem de Jong, 10 million quid
That was meant as a low estimate. I reckon a price tag between 10 and 13 million quid, with 11 million + clauses as most likely.
He would be a big addition to the team as I rate him much higher than Cisse. But I MUST note that De Jong is not a typical striker. He is an AM/CF, thats his best position. Behind the striker to supply him with chances. He is comfortable at the ST position and he can score a lot of goals. But he is playmaker, not a steady goal producer. I hope I made myself clear that there are reservations as how Pardew would use him.

No, that's perfectly clear thanks Cove. Based on what you've just explained I expect Pards will play him at left back. <ok>

Or in the position Remy would have taken in a 4-3-3

Him and Benni behind Cisse would be insane.

Cove what about Dries Mertens? I think he would be perfect for NUFC in a 4-3-3 formation on the left side.

Pipe dreams this I reckon like. The board will be putting the impression across that we will be flapping round like turkeys come deadline day but our business will effectively be finished a few days before the window closes. We might sign a few youngsters, but as for first teamers, now we lost out on remy, can't see much movement happening.

Yea that is a horrible miss, later that day Ajax came with a statement: The pitch was more sand than dirt or grass. Impossible to play on.
Ajax have their training camp in Brazil because their main sponsor AEGON has interests in Brazil. Frank de Boer stated that his personal preference was to do the trainings camp in Portugal.

Not sure we can attract the likes of this lad at present. Would be a cracking signing but I just couldn't see it.
