Apologies with regards the title ladies (and 2010Tops <whistle>), this isn't a thread about burly Swedish guys... I need to get work done so I can't afford to take my Google search off "safe" at the moment

Anyway, when we've been debating issues recently a few terms tend to crop-up fairly frequently (and I've added a couple too), and the subjective values we attach to them are generally assumed, but considering we all have different expectations which inform our arguments, what do we mean by them? An example will do if you don't wish to provide a more in-depth analysis!

Good performance:
Good manager:
Good result:
Good referee performance:
Reckless tackle:

And, a bonus question for special Gandalf points;

What's your minimum expectation of a season as a Newcastle fan?

Welcome aboard Gandalf, I see you got your stripes.

The least I expect is survival, I would have hoped for a lot more but as things stand I'll be happy with that.

And losing no players of course.

Thanks again AB <ok>
I'll share my thoughts-
Good performance: In terms of a team, I rate a good performance based on collective good individual performances, the creation of many chances in 90 minutes of football, limiting the chances of the opposition regularly, few silly errors and good ball retention in attacking phases. It does not require a good result e.g If one player makes a mistake and our chances aren't taken, we lose, but it could still be a good team performance.
Good manager: Not all good managers win trophies, for me. Some are never given that opportunity. A good manager is somebody who inspires good performances AND good results, and who invariably gets the best out of what he has.
Good result: A good result is statistically 3 points, or 1 against the odds. However, far from Casio's cold robotic heart which can't process emotion or style, I think good results tend to be informed by good performance as well, and that the two aren't mutually exclusive.
Good referee performance: In a perfect world, they'd make no mistakes. Being more lenient, I think if you can justifiably call the same decisions from their position and view on the pitch, they've put in a good referee performance.
Reckless tackle: Personally, I think the rules are wrong if this is considered a bad or reckless challenge

Ditto Kompany's tackle at the weekend.

However, tackles like this are reckless
