Cheers Stick/Dexter I'm certain BostonBob won't be running in the Arkle, the RSA is definitely his target. Just hoping he is more impressive next time out as I'm waiting on him for a considerable amount. Was hoping he'd be about 3s on the day and I can lay some off. If he gets there of course.
Two for me thus far. As advised last month prior to his return in the old ‘International Hurdle’ I got on Mr Henderson’s Grandouet at 12’s in the 'Champion Hurdle'. Added to this at back end of last week with a very small stake on Kumbeshwar ‘to be placed’ in the Champion Chase at 16/1. Very reluctant to enter any of the novice markets (especially over hurdles) as in most cases you are merely guessing, at this stage, where the beast in question will go.
When I last saw Grandouet he looked a class act who would appreciate ground without the word "soft" in it. On a sound surface I can't see him out of the first 3.
Not a bad price you got there Stick but I just dont like betting ante post as there are too many ifs and buts and some of the prices listed arent that great... You dont know who the New one will line up against, you have no idea if he will have his usual jockey, no idea on the ground or even if he will make the line up etc..... its difficult enough picking winners and I just think best to know the full picture before placing a bet! Im not totally convinced on the New One anyway - was 6th at the festival last season and won his last race off a slow pace - not what he will get in the Neptune!!
Pique Sous could be a bit of a dark horse for the Supreme, think he will be Mullins only other runner, ran a blinder in the bumper last year so no worries about the ground or the track, got beat first time over hurdles but won very easily last time, will need to improve his jumping but I could see him being much better off a strong pace and more importantly, on good ground. He has went under the radar this season and Walsh will more than likely pick Dodging Bullets over him but 25/1 could be worth an e/w bet.
I'll back Geverey chambertin in whatever novice hurdle he races in but they haven't been too specific in his plans yet so will wait and see.
I should think Gevrey would enjoy the Albert Bartlett as he has been better the further he has gone this season BUT Grands Crus has left us stamina questions over the 3m so maybe a strongly run Neptune could suit. I just think in a race like that, that often throws up excellent Champion Hurdle prospects, he might be too slow.
now must surely be the time that we start to realize that the ground is more likely by the week to be soft.
The Pipe's have got Gevrey Chambertin entered in a 'Pertemps Qualifier' later in the week so the Final may be another possibility for the horse at the Festival.
<chhers> Barney. Will definitely wait till nearer the time. Think he'll win anything he's enered in but no point in shelling out for 4 different races
In what way? It was described as soft this weekend at HQ, and that was under snow!! If we have a warm early March they may need to use the dreaded W word. Watering. Too early to be wondering about the ground, I will leave that to Simon Claise.
This is speculative but I have taken some of the 66/1 available about Grumeti for the Champion Hurdle. Improved on the flat over the summer before a setback. If Alan King can get a run into him before and sharpen him up then on the day he will be a lot shorter than that. If carrying his improvement on the flat to hurdles I can see no reason why he won't be in with a shout. He shouldn't be 3 times the price of Countrywide Flame. A risky chance taken on this horse at big odds and small stakes. Really happy that I took some of the 16's on Un Atout a few weeks back. I also think that Swnymor would be a lot shorter in the betting if he was trained by Paul Nicholls or Nicky Henderson.
I've booked my Cheltenham ticket for Gold Cup day as I usually do.... looking forward to a cracking day. Gevrey Chambertin looks very classy and I will be on come the day in whatever race they decide for him. Grumeti - dont see that horse finishing in the first 3.
I am not sure if this is the correct thread for this post however I did not think it required a completely fresh thread. I have now placed ante-post bets on a few horses in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and am now wondering if Imperial Commander is worth a wager bearing in mind it is available at NRNB with the Tote at 40/1 (best price 50/1). When looking at outsiders I, like most other AP bettors, will look at the likelihood of running and the rest of the probable field. This year the CGC runners look to fall into three distinct groups; second season chasers, last year's placed horses and handicappers. I am aware that it is asking a lot for a horse to return to a level of form last attained about three years ago however that form seems to me to be superior to that achieved by virtually all the other likely runners. The year IC won the CGC it beat Denman (second - 7l) coming off it's second and probably superior Hennessy win and Kauto Star's (fell - under pressure) most impressive King George victory. Am I going nuts or is 40/1 (NRNB) a fair price - views please!
Hi all, Jumpsman here. My first post after reading you lot for a while many of you since the old 606 days. Decided it was about time to get involved and share my thoughts, especially with the festival getting close. This thread got me thinking that maybe my ante post portfolio doesn't look as promising as maybe it could. With a few either confirmed for other races and some probably not Cheltenham bound at all. Anyway here goes. Snake eyes - SNH E/W @ 33/1 ( plus other bits at fancy prices on Betfair). Don't hold much hope. My tent or yours - SNH @ 14/1 Grandouet - CH @ 9/1 ( convinced the quicker pace and hopefully better ground will suit) Dynaste - GC @ 370/1 on Betfair ( thought I was being clever but seems DP is definitely going to RSA ) Lac Fontana - TH @ 25/1 ( need this one to come out soon ) Chapoturgeon - FH @ 10/1 ( probably my banker at the mo, really believe last years front 2 will fill the same positions. Reverse forecast on the day too) Anyway there goes, good luck to all.
