As a bloke in his 50s ready to buy a new mobile phone to make the odd furn curl, minimal monthly texts, some downloading and watching/listening to iplayer and youtube, but quite a bit of internet browsing, I ve narrowed my search to three devices. Lumina 820 (Windows), Xperia T or Galaxy SII (Androids). Recommendations and comments invited?

Just got the wife a Galaxy (about 3 eeks us now) and it does everything you speak of just fine; unlike the Kindle 32 Fire I got at the begiining of December, good in some respects but can't watch Sky or many YouTubes' I should have shelled out for the iPad!

the S2 has really poor battery life, you would be better off suggesting the Galaxy s3 mini - its nearly as slick as its big brother the S3 too .

Other than that the galaxy ace or ace2 are both decent enough , for most purposes

i currently have the s3 and someone in our house has had at least one of the phones i mentioned , tbh theres nowt wrong with any of the android Samsungs when comparing prices

Yer, that's what I got the wife Samsung Galaxy II; it's okay. Unlike the Kindle . . . . which I threw in as an aside to caution anyone considering one (even though it's not a phone).

I've got a Nokia Lumia 800 and it's superb. Really simple operating system, clear screen and uses a powerful windows system. Does everything the iPhone does and more.

I've got a Galaxy S2. I think its brilliant, had it over a year and still not bored of it. It'll do everything you want and more. I find the battery okay.

I got the Lumia 920, with windows, I love its got a nice big screen, for a phone, that helps with us older ones with bad eyesight. Easy to operate and does everything very well that you want.

Sony Xperia S is cheaper than the T, with a far better camera. Free from £15.50 a month - a pretty damn good deal for 500mb internet, 300 mins and unlimited texts.

Not used the Nokia or Samsung so I can't really compare.

Any of the Samsung phones to be honest, S2 is fine, I have one, battery is also fine, sure I gotta charge it every day but I use it a lot. S3 is awesome, S3 mini is awesome, my mother in law has the Ace, she loves it.

Obviously always better if you can going for the latest models, I mean I wouldn't get a new S2 right now, the later versions are better. Nip into a Phones 4 U and have a play, see what you like the look and feel of. For the smaller phones you can get some pretty good contracts. Don't get too beat up about data usage, long as you got 500mb or a gig you'll be fine, just use WiFi as much as you can.

    Galaxy SII. It's reliable.

You should go into Carphone Warehouse in Hull mate, there's one opposite Toys 'R' Us, next door to Mother Care in Kingston Retail Park. Talk to them and they'll tell you all their deals, really helpful.

I just won an Ipad playing poker on Ladbrokes, gonna be money for old rope selling the thing, literally. Biggest load of overpriced tat imaginable these Apple products, I got an Android tablet second hand for 60 quid and I bet it does most things better than this fruitpad apart from photos and a slightly prettier screen

My mobile is the Samsung Note (the old one) and it's great. I don't make too many phone calls but I do a fair amount of surfing, use apps quite a bit as well as take/show vids and photos.

Once you get over the size (about a couple of days) it's brilliant.

    I'm 42.

I have a Galaxy Ace, its decent and does things fine. Obviously, I think iPhones are the best but if you arent bothered about FaceTime etc(which I am) then you might as well save some dosh. I am on giffgaff, free sim and great deals, you have to buy the phone though. I have 250 mins, unltd texts and 1gb of internet for a tenner, and its only another £2 for unltd internet. More deals availanle too, I'd recommend it.

You arse :p Any phone shop'll do to be honest, carphone warehouse, even a branded one like Orange or Vodaphone, you just want to have a look and feel.

Might want to phrase that differently unless you have Mr Galante on hand. As it were.
