My whole life is consumed by saving QPR: Redknapp says job is keeping him up at night By Laura Williamson PUBLISHED: 21:30 GMT, 13 January 2013 | UPDATED: 22:52 GMT, 13 January 2013 Comments (2) Share ..Harry Redknapp said his 'whole life is consumed by saving QPR' after his side earned a credible draw against former club Tottenham. The Rangers boss, 65, flew to France after Saturday's game to check on Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila and is close to securing a loan move for Spurs' Jake Livermore, who was not involved at Loftus Road. Redknapp also hopes to keep defender Ryan Nelsen for 'another six or seven weeks' before he becomes head coach of Toronto FC. The QPR manager said: 'I could sit back and say: "It's not my problem, unlucky", but my whole life is consumed by saving QPR. I don't sleep every night and my mind's non-stop. But it's a buzz.' Redknapp also admitted an interest in West Brom forward Peter Odemwingie after deciding not to use any of the three strikers - Djibril Cisse, Jay Bothroyd and DJ Campbell - he named among his substitutes on Saturday. But playing more conservatively, with just one striker, has helped QPR take four points in their last two Premier League games against Chelsea and Spurs, and Redknapp insisted this is the way QPR have to continue if they want to stay up. On the move: Redknapp hopes that defender Ryan Nelsen (right) will stay at the club for six or seven weeks more before he leaves to become a coach in the USA He said: 'I have had teams in the last few years who have great attacking flair, but I have to make the best out of what we have got and be hard to beat. 'Against Liverpool, I played Cisse up front with (Adel) Taarabt with two wingers and got destroyed. We are not good enough to play that way, unfortunately. 'Some of my players get written off. People say: "They are only Championship players." But they are giving it everything and I can't ask for any more.' I didn't hate Hughes cos he slept! And Arry will probably do better with more kip. Point is that Harry is a far better Manager, and that includes making smart comments like he "don't sleep every night" when his predecessor said the opposite.
I typed arry but the stupid autocorrect kicked in. it might happen again as I'm on a new tablet so it will look like I'm talking even more bollocks than normal!
Who cares whether the guvnor sleeps nights? No one around, phone's off, great time to think stuff over and work a few things out. But it's the product of that thinking that's what really counts. We've seen managers come and go, and often-time they do stuff that leaves us puzzled. 'Why was this formation used?' or 'why was that player dropped?' or not as the case may be, we ask ourselves and turn to speculating on here. Given the number of times they get interviewed for this or that, how often do managers actually explain themselves? There was a thread the other day where I pointed out 'Arry's tendency to avoid the 's' word (striker, as in lack of) in interviews, preferring euphemisms to cover our embarrassing and increasingly obvious goal 'tally'. Well, in this interview, 'Arry's confirmed he's on the same page as most of the rest of us. I found the quotes below very reassuring in that sense. It's so often the case that you think you know what the gaffer's plan is - only to realise sometime later in the middle of a rapid descent that not only was there no plan but the gaffer was off his nut! No, this leaves us in no doubt this time. 'Arry clearly knows what we've got and what we haven't got. He knows what we need and the slim chances of getting much in this window (but together with Phil Beard, he's put bids in for pretty much everyone anyway). And he's confirmed that what we're seeing is how it is and what we'll be getting more of; he's closing the door, bolting down the hatches and hoping for the odd break in the clouds. "He said: 'I have had teams in the last few years who have great attacking flair, but I have to make the best out of what we have got and be hard to beat'. 'Against Liverpool, I played Cisse up front with (Adel) Taarabt with two wingers and got destroyed. We are not good enough to play that way, unfortunately'. 'Some of my players get written off. People say: "They are only Championship players." But they are giving it everything and I can't ask for any more." So no flies on 'Arry. That's all I want to be sure of. Like he says, we can't ask for more.
