this bloke behind me kept shouting abuse at him - things like 'get him off' - I never heard him when he scored that great goal though !
Yes, today was the perfect opportunity to give Proschwitz a start up top To see what he had to offer ... But it never eventuated
Have to disagree. He went on his own more today because everyone else was playing like they'd just been signed from a lower league veterans team, usually he has great exchanges with Elmo, Quinn, Simmo and Koren. The main thing with Aluko is, he's just great to watch. If you take Aluko out that side I would've gone home feeling that I'd wasted 2 hours of my day. I go to football to be entertained, I'm not that bothered about the score if I'm honest. Aluko never fails to entertain, that's why he's up there with Geo and Theo as one of my favourite players of the last decade or so. We didn't have any flair for the last 2 years and I hated it. Some people say "the result is all that matters" I couldn't disagree more, the football is what matters for me. That's why I hate teams who play football like Wednesday did today and Sean Dyche's teams have every time we've played them. If I supported Wednesday I'd be going home disappointed today, despite it probably being their result of the season.
"I go to football to be entertained, I'm not that bothered about the score if I'm honest." Why support just one team then? Surely you'd be better off just watching La Liga on Sky where the 'entertainment' is far superior?
I enjoy the atmosphere and following my local team everywhere too. Of course I always hope we win, but I've come away from games like the 3-2 defeat against Blackpool this season, the 3-2 defeat at Sheff Utd in 2006, etc, feeling better than I did after some of our 1-0 away wins in the last 2 years.
What? I don't see why the result should completely dictate how much you enjoy a game. For example, if we don't go up this season but repeat the football we've played in the first half of the season, many will regard it as an unsuccessful season, whereas, I'd have thoroughly enjoyed it.
None of ours though. Agreed. But it affects so many players that it seems like just playing for us is enough to suck a striker's confidence from him. We haven't had a decent in-form striker since Windass and Campbell when we actually had 3! It's like buses. Meyler's a good player but he was ****ing awful today. His passing accuracy must have been something like 10%. I thought Simpson did everything right apart from a piss-poor penalty. He does absolutely nothing for the team. Since Birmingham in November he hasn't had a goal, assist or even beaten a man to create a chance further down the line. He's done **** all. His ability gets us no points unless it leads to goals and it just doesn't. People have questioned Simpson's form in that time but he keeps taking men on, holding it up and winning a penalty today by doing so, which achieved more in 20 minutes than Aluko did in 90. Shame he went and ****ed it up mind. We need a new attack.
I think the whole teams passing was a bit shoddy, Meyler seemed to get in amongst it though more than the others. Like to see players with a bit of fight. Reckon he could be our new improved Ashbee that kid. As for Koren, he needs putting back in midfield and for Bruce to decide how to use him better as he isn't a striker.
did you actually go? - Meyler was dreadful today - too easily knocked off the ball, constantly losing possession and much too many wayward passes - although neither Quinn or Evans were any better - midfield today was totally out muscled and out played which is why we lost - no protection for the back and no service up front
Koren is pissing me off... last season we relied on his edge of the box goals far too much and now he's not contributed with them half as much as he used to so what exactly is he in the squad for? He is so slow now, can't outrun anyone, his passing was absolutely ****e today, I don't think he's ever heard of the word tackle and he plays for himself. Great header... but otherwise absolutely ****e. 3/10 today. I don't think he fits the system at all up front or in general... he's not the same Koren we are used to... a bit like what happened with Geovanni... started looking disinterested and sluggish...
Koren's goal glossed over his under-par performance. That's 2 poor efforts from two completely different City XIs (vs Orient and Wendies) No other opponent has come to the KC and nullified us like they did. How can you slag off Wendesday? you can't, they played to their gameplan and out fought us all over the park. they wanted it more, it was clear. You can go on all you like about talent, systems and strikers but the team needs desire and today I thought they looked like they were suffering from stagefright in front of the cameras. Not PL standard, nowhere near. If we don't find a goal scorer, Leicester will overtake.
Koren is a lazy overrated prima-dona. The team carry him week after week. Is he any good other then his long range efforts? Anyone who actually gets that much time & space in a game should do a hell of a lot more with the ball than he does. No one had a good game yesterday but he hasn't been good enough all season. I'm not an ashbee fan (quality wise) but he wouldnt take a performance week in week out like what Koren gives us. Easy decision for me once a new striker is bought.
Some of the comments about Koren on here are embarrassing. He consistently scores around a dozen goals a season from midfield. He links play well and his passing is usually good. He can unlock defences( his ball to Evans against Leeds) and his movement off the ball creates space for others. He does have games when he goes missing but who doesn't? We lose one ****ing game and it's Koren bashing time again. Unbelievable.
Korens a very important player for us. You won't see him flying into tackles, like Ashbee or bullying defenders like Windass, that's simply not his game. Ashbee couldn't produce defence splitting passes and score match winning goals like Koren does. It's horses for courses. As some have allready said,he's currently being played out of position so what do you expect from him ? He's our captain and he's been our captain all season. In case some of you have'nt noticed,he's captained us into second place
His finish for the goal was class. Considering the ball from Elmo was slightly behind him, it was a good finish. He's not a striker but he's popping up in the box. Something Aluko and other strikers should be doing. You can't just single out players though, the whole team weren't good enough last night. Sometimes these things happen and it will hopefully give them a kick up the arse for next week.
Aluko is young and won't be brilliant every week. Wen we play nice Barca-esque football, we will play the opposition off the park, when it gets tough against a big physical team, there's no-one to stick the boot in. Faye did early on, he should have been yellowed at least. It's hard to do these days.
That's the one thing he's doing right at the moment, he keeps scoring from crosses where the other attackers aren't even in the area. We need more than that from him though. It's alright equalising brilliantly in the 83rd minute but we needed him to score in the first half and it would have been a different game. At this level of football you should never see players missing those 1-on-1s but our strikers do it every time. You see League two players on FLS who can finish properly, so why can't our £10k a week Championship strikers do it?
