Boruc 8 By far his best performance for the club. Outstanding save in 2nd half. Clyne 6 Linked up well with Puncheon on his return. Hooiveld 6 More solid than he has been Yoshida 6 Inexplicably let a ball bounce over his head and let Villa counter. Other than that solid. Shaw 8 MOTM. Another fine performance, really showed his strength and his overlapping has improved. Puncheon 7 Looked a threat all game. Morgan 6 Cork 6 Ramirez 6 Rodriguez 7 His pace caused problems for Villa all afternoon, but a couple of poor decisions when in good positions. But a good performance overall. Lambert 6 Nice penalty but not in the game too much. Subs Fox 6 Davis 6 De Ridder N/A (not enough time on the pitch) Saints Fans 10 Brilliant support as usual from the stands. I include myself in that. Sorry for the lack of modesty but I was singing all game. Glad to see all of us joined in with the applause for Petrov in 20th minute. Villa fans 0 Heard nothing from them all game.
Think you've got most of it right Tom. Here's mine: Boruc - 8 Clyne - 5 Yoshida - 6 Hooiveld - 6 Shaw - 8 Puncheon - 8 Schneiderlin - 7 Cork - 6 Ramirez - 5 Rodriguez - 7 Lambert - 7
Boruc - 7 Clyne - 6 Yoshida - 5 Hooiveld - 6 Shaw - 8 Puncheon - 7 Schneiderlin - 8 Cork - 6 Ramirez - 6 Rodriguez - 7 Lambert - 9
I wasn't there like you Tom and I only saw the match on screening but a 6 for Lambert seems very harsh. he has a great awareness of the game and those around him. he keeps it simple and often plays the right ball. his link up play looked very good. he has a brilliant footballing brain and doesn't have to take on six players to have a good game. an 8 for Lambert at least
I just didn't think Rickie was in the game that much. He did link up play well on occasions but I thought Rodriguez had a better game.
jrod had a great game. he often got behind villas defence and caused them plenty of problems. that's the beauty of Lambert and jrod playing together. good variety
Must say I liked the way Shaw got forward today, but what impressed me was the the way he read the potential danger to go accross the pitch and rob a Villa player where Clyne should have been with both Yoshi and Jos beaten
Boruc - 8 Clyne - 6.5 Yoshida - 6.5 Hooiveld - 6.5 Shaw - 7.5 Schneiderlin - 7 Cork - 6.5 Puncheon - 6.5 Ramirez - 6 Rodriguez - 7 Lambert - 7 Adkins - 7 - the decision to play 2 up front with Jay pushing on the last man forced them to defend deep and allowed us to control them territorially for the first half. However, trying and shut up shop nearly cost us for the second away game running and our lack of assuredness in these situations has been the same all season. I heard somewhere thatin the last 10 minutes of training, Man U often play eleven vs eleven, with the reserves defending a one goal lead vs the first team for that weekend. No wonder they score so many late on, they all know their individual roles should the scenario recur in the next game. Maybe we should do be doing the same, but with the first team defending the lead.
Boruc - 8 Clyne - 6 Hoover - 7 Maya - 8 Shaw - 8 Morgan - 7 Cork - 6 Puncheon - 7 Ramirez - 6 Jay - 8 Lambert - 8 People don't recognise that actually, Yoshida is absolutely everywhere in defence. He really made up for Fonte not being there today. I'm really happy with the way he's improving. Jay and Rickie were fantastic up front today, Rodriguez is gonna be a top top player, we need to hold on to him for the future. On the contrary I thought Cork and Clyne were disappointing today. There didn't seem to be as much communication between Clyne and Puncheon, which was uncharacteristic.
So one slip drops him 4 points? I don't think you can say you thought he was solid and only give a 6 out of 10
Well I gave him a 5 because I noticed a number of mistakes significantly higher than one. They weren't costly, but they were rather silly. He's a good player, but he seems to lack confidence even when the rest of the team has it in abundance.
And he's young, in centre back terms. Can think of many Prem teams who would give a lot for a good 24 year old centre back, particularly one who's not just a hoofball merchant.
I'd say a 6 is solid. Did his job, but nothing great and equally nothing poor. A 10 is for players who really excell in the game!
It's interesting how different people watch the game. From what I noticed he was everywhere, and saved us from Benteke and Weimann a couple of times. That for me is enough to give him an 8. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't think he did a lot wrong today. He's undoubtedly improving, which is the most positive thing.
