http://www.stadium-attendances.com/Chelsea,historical,attendances.html Strange how low the CFC attendances were when they were in this division!!
As were Leeds, averaging 13k to 17k for five consecutive seasons in Div 2. Chelsea averaged 12k to 23k when they had five consecutive seasons in div 2. Attendances in the 80s were poor for all clins though not just Chelsea and Leeds
Also strange how high the away the CFC attendances were when they were in that division. 3rd highest away following in the country when in the 2nd division. 12k+ at United in the FA Cup, 15k at Brighton, 8k at Newcastle midweek, 15k at Grimbsy, 10k at City. Really strange that...
So you took 15,000 to Brighton in the late 80s ? funny that as the capacity was only 10,500 in that period.
Nope it was 1983. Thousands were locked out and trashed Brighton. The capacity of the Goldstone was over 20k then: Brighton & Hove Albion (0) 1 Chelsea (1) 2 Date: Saturday, 3rd September 1983 Competition: Football League Division 2 Position 2 Venue: Goldstone Ground Attendance: 20,874 Referee: Ken W Baker (Rugby) Brighton & Hove Albion Digweed, O'Regan, Pearce, Grealish (Lambert), Foster, Gatting, Case, Smith, Young, Connor, Smillie Scorer Young Manager Jimmy Melia Chelsea 1 Eddie Niedzwiecki, 2 John Hollins, 3 Chris Hutchings, 4 Colin Pates, 5 Joe McLaughlin, 6 John Bumstead, 7 Clive Walker, 8 Nigel Spackman, 9 Kerry Dixon, 10 Colin Lee, 11 Paul Canoville Scorers Dixon, Dixon (Pen) Manager John Neal
About attendances and plastic fans, not about West Ham being more discussed than the alleged European champions.
