GMI, you have now answered my question .. you do think Adkins is only a patsy. I disagree and think that is hugely extreme and if you really believe he has no ability other than to make the tea, you can't really understand football or people. I don't believe you really think that as extremely as you write - you are just seeking the attention you have gained, but fair enough, I can say no more on the patsy front other than we disagree.

Interesting point about Ramirez. I certainly haven't ignored it and I have said on here and to all of my footballing friends that I will be surprised if Gaston is with us by 31st August 2013. I'd certainly expect him to be gone by 2014. I hope not, but I think he has that much ability that he will be at a top, European club. I decided that after watching him play twice; maybe a rash assumption, but ability wise he is head and shoulders above what we have. He will be gone within a year, 18 months max.

Cortese oversaw that move as well as Ramirez so two moves from Italy on his parts, some poster was trying ever so smartly to say one, Guly worked out didnt he?

Now, your language here about Cortese "pulling the strings" on transfers is ok and a valid point, but by now means as inflammatory as slagging of our manager, implying he is useless, as you did in the OP.

I responded very politely to your post and you throw me in the "clappers" corner. Have a different opinuion by all means, just be prepared to debate it nicely.

How do you know he oversaw the Guly deal?, is there proof?. Just because we buy a player from Italy it doesn't automatically mean Cortese is involved. So going by your theory if we sign a player from and Tunisia it is Jaidi's doing?.

Was Guly not from Serie B at the time, albeit just promoted- but technically from the 2nd tier?

Just a question rather than a challenge...

OK so lets assume that you are right and every player we have signed from Italy is because Cortese has decided he wants them. So far that is 2 players, both of whom have worked out imo. Guly was a very good signing for a League one side and Ramirez has all the talent to become a real class act.

As others have said I do believe that we look more in Italy than other countries because of Cortese's connections there, but I don't think he will just sign a player without first scouting the player and discussing it with scouts/Les Reed/Adkins. It wouldn't fully surprise me though if Adkins had little say on whether or not we signed someone as that is pretty common across Europe. The scouting team and Director of Football are responsible for building the squad, the manager fits them into a formation and manages them.

Can I just ask why on earth it matters? If it brings us more players like Ramirez I'm not complaining.

I don't care who is buying the players.

We need a central defender badly. Astori is a really good one, and Saints might get him at a decent price. That's all that matters. If Cortese, or Adkins, or whoever uses scouting or contacts or cultural understanding to create a Serie A all-star team at cutrate prices that would be absolutely fantastic. If the long term plan is that we end up with 6 of the best players from Serie A and 5 players from the Saints Academy I have no problems with that whatsoever.

The question mark at the end of my question (one of these ? ) demonstrates that it was in fact a question not a statement. Regardless, two purchases from Serie A in three years and that is evidence enough for you that Adkins is a patsy. Well just going by your profile, I'd say that there are 2500 pieces of evidence pointing to something else.

But we're linked with a third! Let's ignore the fact he's a very good player available for less money than he's worth because of his club's financial state (much like Ramirez), the only reason why we must be after him is because Adkins is a patsy.

Seriously, I don't get it. The Italian market is possibly the best place to get value for money, Cortese has Italian connections, so why is GMI trying to make some conspiracy out of this?!

Lets give St Mary's an Italian makeover - green, white and red laser lighting for starters to light up the stadium, open an Italian restaurant under the Chapel Stand, have an Italian style market outside the stadium once a month, Italian wine-tasting sessions in one of the lounges or under the Northam. We could go further and have a Renaissance Art Gallery under the Kingsland. And have Ferrari sponsored shirts. And for decor, Italian style hanging baskets!! And at all future home matches sing at least one chant in Italian! Thoughts guys!!

It's fair to say that NA does have a say in the transfers we bring in.

AND The italian league is a smart choice as:

    1. NC has contacts in italy
    2. The league is losing money so there are plenty of good deals and bargains (not saying that we have got a bargain with Ramirez at the moment, so dont put words in my mouth)
    3. Italian league is known for it's defensive style so us buying a defender from there is a very good choice.

I think there are some things we can only speculate on and we will probably never properly know what goes on behind the scenes at St Mary's. Could Cortese be pulling the strings in the transfer market without Adkins knowing? Is he picking the team? Has Adkins asked him to use his contacts to tie up players based in Italy? We don't know, but you can be damn sure that if something was going on that Adkins didn't like, he'd walk out of the club, much like Alan Curbishley at West Ham.

There are too many unknowns here to justify your comments about Adkins, and people wonder why others don't get on with you. Posts like that show why.

Throw in the Papa Waigo loan and no doubt we'll shortly hear about the plans to rename the club "The Rossoneri".

I'm all for this. The chant in Italian might be too much of an ask for some people, so we'll just make one up to the "That's Amore" tune.

Can we add "o" to the end of everyone's name, so we have Lamberto, Lallano, Wardo...Prowso...etc etc.

    Rossobianci if you please!

Seriously GMI this is absurd. Cortese barely knows the rules of football let alone where to even start with looking for players. We have a scouting network for crying out loud, all Cortese does is deal with the money.

I can't understand your obsession with this idea.
