yep. i'd love to see benno given a run of games. last season i thought from january till the end of the season he was our best player. just needs to add a few more goals and he'd be some player. versatile, great appetite for the game - never lets us down - and a thoroughly lovely bloke too. in terms of modern footballers, he is john terry's nemesis!
Jacko may be small but boy can he jump to cancel out that disadvantage thought he put on a great Zebedee show against the Posh
yes with jackson scoring last weekend, i'd like to see him start if Holt and Morro are still out - no offence to Kane but that goal to jacko has probably done wonders to his confidence
Completely agree. After Jackson was brought on against Scunthorpe it did wonders for his confidence and was great for the team. It has to be the best substitution Lambert has done. We had the win with being 3-0 up against Scunthorpe, Jackson got a hattrick which improved his confidence and got him a further 5 or 6 goals. Without which we probably would not have got promoted. That hattrick against Derby was so important, especially THAT goal.
I think he'd do ok on his own upfront especially against newcastle who play quite a few long balls and are very direct so there's a good chance we can keep a bit of possession and won't rely on long balls so the physical presence isn't as important. Hopefully if we have a decent amount of possession we can take advantage and Simeons pace may be a threat
Admittedly, he can't hold the ball up as Holty does, so we won't have a smuch possession, but I'd ether like to see him start, or come on (rather than Moro) to replace Holt with say 30 minutes to go - not the 5 or 10 that CH usually gives.
Jackson does more holding onto the ball and bringing others into player than Holt or Morison. Holt and Morison play balls to other players but don't keep hold of it. A lot of you may think I'm mad for saying it. But just think of the times you've seen Holt, Morison and Jackson keep hold of the ball for a long period of time.
absolute drivel of the very highest order and i totally agree with wonky on this - jackson maintains possession far better than both morison and holt. what he isn't quite as adept at holt at is controlling the ball. but when he has the ball he keeps it and his interplay with hoolahan (or bennett on saturday) is good. he's an instinctive finisher - we saw that on saturday - if he has no time to think he usually buries the chance but given time he often fluffs it. morison is very similar in that respect. holt is the calmer and better finisher.
If anything it would e good to see Bennett play in the Hoolahan role against NUFC. I love Hoolahan to bits, he has been our best player for me this season (as iv said before- with Tettey and Bassong close behind) but I think Jackson and Bennett would frighten the life out of defenses with their pace! Especially with Pilks and Snodgrass' trickery on either wing. If Holt cannot play on Sat then its Benno and Jacko for me.
personally i'd quite like to see bennett in place of pilkington on the left wing. he can cut in so we have two inverted wingers still. pilks has done ok and has certainly scored plenty but his performances of late probably don't warrant a starting place - its the goals which are keeping him in there. as far as i'm concerned, if hoolahan is fit, hoolahan plays
Glad to here I'm being backed up on this and not going totally mad. Thought everyone was going to disagree with me! I think this perception that Morison or Holt give the team more possession is down to the fact that they're bigger an stronger.
I've not checked so I might be wrong, but hasn't Jacko scored four goals this season in far less appearances than either Holt or Morison, making him our joint top scorer?
At the beginning of the season when him and Holt were playing together, he was also, in my opinion, the better player. If you remember, Hughton's decision to sub him got booed on two separate occasions. Holt got preferred as the lone striker and hasn't put a foot wrong since but Jackson does offer us something different. I hope he doesn't get fed up warming the bench and demand to leave.
