OK, post Wisco, our signings have ranged between satsfactory and excellent. Only one who is still looking dubious is Gosling, who was free, and perhaps some of the development squad signings, which is to be expected

The problem with home grown players has always been their prices are incredibly inflated and do not offer value for money. I think Pardew (and more importantly Carr) have clearly identified France as a good resource for cheap players both in terms of fees and their current wages, which I don't have a problem with. My biggest problem with how the club is set up right ow is to do with this wonder academy we are supposedly building and yet after the display at Brighton it is clear to see that little project is falling flat on it's backside (once again we find ourselves getting talent in and failing to develop them, simply expecting them to suddenly get better on their own doesn't work, and keeping them in the reserves doesn't either) and as for throwing them all in the first team together .... pfft is there any wonder the performance looked so disjointed??. The likes of Ferguson has shown glimpses of talent and while raw, doesn't get the development time needed. get them out on loan, in the first team more regularly (in a settled side one or two at a time from the bench that is) or ship them out if they aren't good enough. Time to address the squad quality rather than quantity now!

The squad is paper thin, so loaning them out isn't an option.
Blooding them gradually would be ideal, but the injuries to the squad has resulted in them being put into the team in groups.

I agree we don't appear to be able to bring players in from the youth teams....Ameobi (Shola), Krul, N'Zogbia, Carroll and Taylor are the last successful ones we brought in and kept there. To see where most of our youngsters from the last 10 years are now playing just shows that we have not identified the right players or have not developed them properly. The last successful crop of players we brought in was Watson, Elliott, Clark, Howey etc and that was 20 years ago....admittedly it was due to injuries but most of them stayed in top flight football when they left the club so we must have done something correctly.

You cannot find the talent in this country for cheap prices. That is why there aren't any 'gems'. Our last signing was Anita as already said. We also bid for De Jong last summer and bought Cisse from Freiburg in Germany and Santon from Italy in the past 18 months so to say we only look in France is wrong. In conclusion you should stop being wrong.
