Ask yourself this. What will it cost to replace him. A striker in his prime that will guarantee over 30 goals a year and wants to play for us would cost more than 4 million. Whats the point in selling him without first having a tried and tested replacement. Thats the way it was done years ago, you didnt sell until you first had a replacement. What do we do, a la Gradel, sell last couple of days of window and no time to get a replacement worth a ****e
I'm still a bit unsure about what's going to happen to our best players this transfer window. If the new owners are serious about getting the fans onside, they'll either not sell any of our key players, or if one has to go it will be for a large fee which will be immediately spent on replacements. It does not surprise me at all that we're struggling to sign players, with clubs inflating their prices. It's standard practice for a club that's just had a takeover, by the summer they'll realise that we're not going to be mugged off and we'll get the real prices again - unfortunately we need players now, not in summer. Well, in summer too, but you get my point
Personally I don't see as they will sell any, they tried their hardest to keep Snoddy and make him see out his contract. They are trying to get fans on their side, bums on seats and involved via social media, they might not have run a club before but they would know all too well what to expect should we sell one of the FEW remaining crown jewels.
Fair points all round Eire. The original question I was replying to was, is Becchio worth £4m to which I replied as you have seen. I wasn't suggesting for one minute that we should sell him. The JTW would be the worst possible time to sell him. More to the point, I wouldn't want to sell him at all. & in answer to your question on what it would cost to replace him, I don't know. What's Beckford's current market value? That would be a start.
Dont know about Beckfords market value but we could'nt afford the overall Beckford package. If hes on 30k a week as is rumoured, that's him out of our league
Beckford agreed to sign to Huddersfield til the end of the season. If he was remotely interested in coming back he wouldn't have signed....
Birmingham have come out and said they need to sell their most valuable players. Whats Warnock waiting for....
Maybe cos they said sell and not give away. Those lads could be on big wages too having recently been relegated
McGoldrick Lichaj Tonge Thomas If we had these four players, I would expect us to at least finish in the play offs
Hereâs a scenario (Iâm by no means ITK but it is plausible): GFH have allocated a budget for new players (letâs say £5m including wages). They know that the squad needs better players but that itâs already a fairly bloated already (we have in or around 33 in the first team squad). They know that thereâs very little chance of getting rid of the deadwood in January (Varney, Pugh, Connelly, Rachubka etc) but that some will be out of contract in the summer and that it might be easier to offload other players during the close season, thereby freeing up finance for new players. They also donât want to allow Warnock to give any kind of long-term contract to players like Clint Hill. So, they are playing the waiting game, and hoping to satisfy Warnock with a couple of loan signings, whilst keeping the majority of the transfer pot for a new manager in the summer. To honest I donât think this is a bad strategy. So long as they donât sell our better players, Iâm happy not to risk Warnock shelling out on more crap in the transfer market.
One problem with all that. The resounding vote of confidence they gave Warnock at the press conference, even suggesting he was one of the reasons they bought the club. Sounded more to me that they intend persuading him to stay longer than retire at the end of his contract
I am happy with them cancelling lots of contracts signing 1 Player of decent calibre and sorting out next years season ticket prices
Eireleeds1 - presumably they had to be full of praise for Warnock at the press conference? They couldn't exactly say 'we think he's pretty useless and will be looking to sack him as soon as possible'. That sad I would be very disappointed if they offered Warnock a new contract.
They didn't have to say he was part of the contract terms though either, did they? They definitely want him here, that's for certain.
I found it strange that they said this, Warnock was already manager before their involvement. I remember wondering at the time if that was a mistake on their part as in a little white lie. The amount of time the T/O took and Bates selling Snoddy along the way I wouldn't have thought he would give two hoots what they wanted until the cash was stumped up.
