Cryptic tweet from Ashley Brown (Chair of the PST) Ashley Brown ‏@AshBeen23 The administrator is forced to cut costs due to pressure from his creditors. Ask yourself who they are? Replies assume he is talking about Portpin.
Only just! It's taken me a while to post having flagellated myself reading twitter and various other websites for the last hour or so. It's almost impossible to know what to think anymore over accusations of "overpaying" players again (I've read £14k a week between them), Chainrai pulling the stings and so on. I can well imagine these players probably were paid the highest on the wageroll (along with McLeod) but you'd expect (or perhaps hope) this was countered with the foreign players, keepers and youngsters being on a lot less. But who knows. The £14k figure could be accurate. It might not. The £1.5mio wage bill might be accurate. It might not. Difficult to know with our club what to believe! Whilst there's no way this can be good news (their poor performances notwithstanding) it's not entirely unexpected. We've had to put up with far worse and I'm sure we'll have to hear worse news still before this is all over (one way or the other!). Either way, those saying "play the kids" (without actually understanding the 20 man rule) are about to get their wish I guess. This can't be part of a footballing strategy and I can't believe Guy is going to be allowed to replace their wages with another 4 players on half their money.
I thought Dumbaya was the only one with anything really about him (although Williamson was arguably played out of position a lot of the time). Not impressed by Howard either, despite all the News' protests of how hard he was trying. Harley seemed like a genuinely good guy. On his twitter he said he'd still like to turn out on Saturday. Hopefully they'll all be able to get new contracts elsewhere. No doubt they'd probably been sold a dud like the rest of us and deserve to find something else.
I know how you feel - all this sniping - there is a real schoolyard bundle going on at the moment. Opinions Misinformation & guesswork Spitting at each other. This is not the way to bring the fans together in unity. A lot of people will be of the opinion that the only way for Chanrai to get his money back will be by investing in the club to keep it in league 1 and promoted to Championship. They offer no evidence to support that theory. A lot of other people will be of the opinion that a fans buy-out is the only way to save the club. This one is my personal opinion, as I've stated many times before - however, and it's a big however - the PST have provided me with no actual evidence to back this up. I'm taking them on good faith, as it is all I have. What I do think though is that they are doing Trevor Birch a great disservice. He is a professional, appointed by the courts to find the best outcome for the creditors, and one of his briefs will be to ensure that the club does not incur any additional debt while in administration. He will have approved the budget for wages based on the funding available to keep the club as a going concern. I doubt he expected this to run as long as it has. Would be very interested to know what your views are having read all the ****e that I've been reading!
Paul Bensons loan is ending and he will be off to Cheltenham - he turned down a permanent move to Bradford to stay with us. Obviously getting ready for League 2. Just listening to Jon Harley on Express Football Hour, he's gutted.
Gabor Gyepes has signed another 1 month contract. But he wants to bring his young family over so will move if someone else does come in for him.
3rd Eye, will respond to you later. In the meantime, this almost raised a chuckle this morning. Gallows humour I know... View attachment 20346
You can't beat Pompey fans for Gallows Homour. This is one of my favourites from last season.
All the players we have left are going!? Jesus Christ what a mess we're in! Has anyone else ever thought that .... you want PFC to be liquidated? It would mean none of this bollocks would happen. If we started afresh in the Lower Leagues- it would be great in my opinion. Hearing news like the whole team is leaving just complete balls .. I've only been a Pompey supporter for around 10 or so years- since my first visit to a game on holiday in England. For those of you who have supported them 40+ years, it must be extra, extra sad for you to see the club in this position- pretty much constantly for like four years now!
Mendez-Laing has also left in case that got missed. So long... I agree with your comments. There was a lot of back and forth between fans yesterday (I've not dared to look at twitter today). What they hoped to achieve I'm not quite sure. As you say, there's very little factual evidence to back anything up. Blaming Trevor Birch is ridiculous however. Not that I want to give him a round of applause and this was debated at length after the Plymouth game, but he could have easily told Appleton to play the kids and be done with it. Perhaps had he known this saga would be dragging on for so long that's the decision that would have been made. But in the expectation of a quick resolution he allowed the signing of players to ensure the club kept going until ownership had been resolved. With Gyepes being signed for another month it would suggest there's still some money left in the kitty to pay wages but those on (possibly) higher wages had to go. As you say, it's all opinion and conjecture. This season has been remarkably quiet in terms of getting any kind of official information out.
Lubomir Michalik has become the latest player to leave Pompey. The central defender has informed caretaker boss Guy Whittingham he will not be renewing his one-month contract, which expires on Tuesday. The Slovakian international is moving to a club abroad. He probably realises with Gabor Gypes & Ricardo Rocha ahead of him, he wont get much of a look in.
We have signed QPR's young midfielder 18 year old Frankie Sutherland on a months loan, with the ability to extend it further. We nearly signed him on loan back in November, but ran out of time.
According to The Snooze, Pompey are closing in on a double swoop to boost their threadbare squad. Defender Sam Sodje is training with the Blues ahead of making a switch to Fratton Park. And caretaker boss Guy Whttingham is eyeing a loan move for Sunderland midfielder Adam Reed. Sodje, 33, has been without a club since leaving Notts County in the summer. But the powerful defender has impressed Whittingham and Andy Awford after linking up with the rest of the Pompey squad. And a move for Reed could be on the cards, with the 21-year-old looking to pick up first team experience. Reed has already had loan spells at Bradford, Leyton Orient and Brentford in his young career, with Pompey now expected to be his next port of call.
Here's what I know: Rotherham are close to signing lee Williamson who has been released by Portsmouth. Daniel Bogdanovic is set to sign a one month deal with Portsmouth on Friday Portsmouth are close to signing Stevenage striker Patrick Agyemang on loan for a month Young Portsmouth defender Dan Butler is in talks with Rochdale over a short term deal. Jordan Slew and Robbie Cotton set to sign Portsmouth on loan, Michael Apletton would help out us, his former club, by doing this.
Mustapha Dumbuya has signed for Crawley Town. Very best of luck to him for the future. Good player, we will miss him.
