An ABC reporter on Twitter has just tweeted: "RG3 out for 14-18 months. Fark me that is awful. Terrible." Apparently it's his ACL that's gone.
Only seen it from one person so won't take it that seriously yet. Saw earlier it's ACL, MCL and PCL which would make sense if he's really out that long. What a ridiculous decision to keep him playing. He was always going to get injured playing in the scheme Shanahan runs but this would be horrendous.
Saw the hit just before half time and already knew that knee was going to give in the second half. Wether a sack, slide, collision or some defender just holding that leg would be enough to just rip that muscle apart. I hope Shanahan get's sacked for possibly ruining a young rookies career! Just because he got his head up his arse: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-around-the-league/0ap2000000123494/Shanahan-feels-he-made-right-decision
I was wondering WHY he was still in. There is something really wrong there and I think someone has to pay. This is the FRANCHISE player. I saw the interview this morning with RG3 where he said to coach Shanahan that there was a difference between hurt and injured and that he was the Quarterback and he felt that it was his job to finish the game. Or something to that effect.
14-18 months would be incredibly severe even for an ACL, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him out for about 9-10 months. He tore his ACL in College as well, don't know if it was the same one but I really hope this isn't going to become a recurring issue for him so early in his career because it could really ruin him. Still can't believe he was kept in the game, playing him at all was risky, but keeping him in the game when he couldn't walk without a limp, couldn't run the ball, and couldn't plant his foot to throw was just reckless towards his health and idiotic in terms of trying to win the game. If it turned out to be 14-18 months I'd be surprised to see Shanahan keep his job to be honest.
Someone should start a twitter account named: RG3's dodgy knee With tweets saying: I'm going to rip myself a new one today Who tore up the Seahawks defense today? Me! I think I'm going to leave early, yea im gonna go Dear Diary, today I had an auwie Right, I'm going to show myself out now
No sorry still not done: Watching Ricky Gervais, tearing myself up here! Yay, going to Florida a little bit earlier this year #Offseason #holiday #specialtreatment
The thing is that he's been playing pretty much non-stop on a bad knee since the Baltimore game (save for the Browns game where Cousins took over). While it's the same sort of injury as Peterson suffered, he didn't play on any sort of injury for months afterwards. That month of game time that RG3 has had on this knee has clearly done him no good at all, hence why it would be expected that he's out for at least 10 months. And also, the NFL site says he's also tore his LCL in addition to his ACL, which doesn't help matters at all.
RG III could be forced to retire immediately and Snyder might not fire him. Then two days later, one of Snyder's poker buddies might tell him that Shanahan sends his receivers in motion too much and Snyder would fire him on the spot. It's impossible to be predict or by surprised by Snyder's idiocy.
When a QB is limping as bad as RG3 did in the second half, a head coach should be protecting his protegee because sporters will always say they are fit to play, even when they are not. Stuff like this happens because coaches are to afraid to act and just shove the blame on everybody else except themself. Shanagan is the only one responsible for this. He should have sent RG3 to the locker room at HT. 73 thousand people in the stadium saw that RG3 was injured badly but the head coach couldn't...
It's very possible they would have won that game with Cousins, while they had no chance with RGIII even if he hadn't left in the 4th quarter. So it was just a horrible decision no matter how you slice it.
I totally agree with this. Especially if RG3 started the game. Seattle were prepared for him and not a conventional offense. So yes.....it is conceivable that they had a chance to beat Seattle. I'm glad they didn't but I certainly did not want to see RG3 get injured.
Some news outlets are now reporting on the nature of the surgery required. The worst I've seen is that he requires "total reconstructive surgery" on his entire knee.
Washington Post reports RG3 is in surgery as of 7 AM CET. Which is 13:00 GMT. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/wp/2013/01/09/robert-griffin-iii-surgery-is-at-7-a-m/?tid=sm_twitter_washingtonpost Robert Griffin III surgery is underway as of 7 a.m. Posted by Mark Maske on January 9, 2013 at 7:26 am A person familiar with the situation said around 7 a.m. that Robert Griffin III’s surgery was underway. The person said Griffin’s lateral collateral ligament will be repaired and doctors will determine the extent of damage to his anterior cruciate ligament. View Photo Gallery —The Redskins fell, 24-14, at FedEx Field in Landover, mounting little offense after the first quarter as star rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III aggravated his right knee injury and was unable to finish the game. That person denied a report by ESPN saying doctors already had diagnosed a complete ACL tear. It’s possible that extensive damage to Griffin’s ACL will be found but doctors had not determined that to be the case prior to the surgery, the person said. Before heading into surgery Griffin tweeted a message of thanks.
