Simmo lacks the 'Wow' factor somehow - when he gets the ball one does not expect anything to come from it. Like Cam stewart - he gets the ball, looks flashy but it fizzles out.
With McLean gone and Fryatt out, and will the likelihood that only one striker will come in, then Simpson has to stay at least until the end of the season. I still think Prossy will come good, but the rest I agree should be in the mini bus.
But how can a header be a sitter? Unless it's an empty net or pretty much on the line a header can't be a sitter can it? The one's Simpson's missed were the one late on against Leicester which he connected with well but put it down the middle and the one at Blackpool which I still haven't seen but it sounded similar. It's not like he's going through one on one and missing.
Strikers are paid to score, whether it was a chance on his foot or head, a championship striker should score from 6 yards out, unmarked in the centre of the goal
I don't think that it will be a minibus, more like a double decker. Oxely McShane McKenna Stewart McLean Simpson Faye Oli Dawson Cullen Fryatt Rosenior Korean All dependant on promotion or not. Some I want to go, others I would like to keep, but I feel that they will be sacrificed if we go up.
might sound odd but it's more about putting chances away than missing as such, all strikers miss but quality strikers put more chances away. The higher you get the less chances you get so can't accomodate so much missing of them, Simpson is a good player but misses too often - unluckily so perhaps but still a miss. A top striker would have at least 4/5 more goals than Simpson I reckon based on his chances this season, even Prossie's strike rate in relation to chances is prob better even tho I think Simpson is a better player & maybe even better for the team & the way we play at the moment...we are 2nd!
Mooney has been around for years and has done a great job at every club he has been with. He is always a danger in the box.
Unfortunately I also think that is Prozzers best position. We have a lot of 'non strikers who are good players' in our squad at present.
I think he has more chance of getting on the end of Brady & Elmo's crosses than anyone else in our current squad
No they aren't. They're no different to any other players. They're paid to do their best to make the team win. It's not as simple as saying certain players have to score a certain amount of goals and if you don't score a certain amount you aren't a good striker. Simpson's finishing this season has been better than other strikers we've had in the last few years. What chances though? We've already established that all he's had in about the last month was two headed half-chances. He isn't getting space in the area and he isn't getting in behind. Maybe that's partly his fault but it isn't a finishing problem if he isn't having shots. Aluko is the same though he hasn't had a proper shot in ages and so he hasn't scored either.
Cack, Fryatt buys and sells him in every department. We're never going to get promoted with Simpson leading the line, I'd play Koren and Aluko up front with out current squad, but obviously I think we'll have a decent striker in the next couple of weeks.
Really? Simpson is a better finisher than Fryatt? (I'm not even going to mention Aluko because we both know who is wayyy better) I must be going to different games than you. Yes, JS works hard, and his hold up play has got slightly better (his first touch is still dreadful hough), but he is a striker and played as a striker and he doesn't score enough goals or even close. He has missed far to many good opportunities this season, and I just pray SB is working 24/7 to get someone else in and soon. If we had Fryatt or a n other striker than our goals for column would be much higher than it currently is.
Doesnt Fryatt pretty much always get 15 goals? Jay has never done that (I dont think). Didnt he out-score every other striker in our division over a calendar year after we signed him? You can get statistics to say whatever you want but in this case they're pretty conclusive. Unless Im wrong on these stats, I havent looked anything up....
Jay's best season was on loan at QPR, when he scored twelve, his career average is a goal every five games, Fryatt's is a goal every three.
Thats alot of wages off the books. For 12k a week does Simpson do enough? The same argument could be had of Proz if he earns similar. With the FFP coming in its vital we get value for money wagewise, i think we'l be operating on a much smaller squad size soon, but with alot more quality hopefully. And then relying on youth coming through.
