You seem confused, at one point you say that some of your players are awful and the worst to pull on a toon shirt in many years then go on to say they are better than the Villa first team. You are having a bad run with a lite injured first team which means you are having to use too many squad/back-up players at the same time, calm down your team are better than this and will prove so in the second half of the season.

 

The following half season with many of his successful side injured.

Manager of the year last season and a well earned and deserved place in Europe? Goals all over the place.

5 months into the next season and the crowd is split on whether he should be sacked? It's a staggering turnaround.

How does that happen then?

Has he been found out? Was he just lucky last season, or unlucky this one? You are not the only club with a massive injury list and all those, including ourselves, are struggling as well.

For what its worth I don't think he will be sacked unless you lose the next 3 league games which are all massive 6 pointers. You'd be in deep, deep **** if that happended mind.

 

Yes, I am not confused, I am saying that even our second string team (the team out yesterday) in my opinion, is better than Villa's first team - and Villa showed some fight in their game, unlike us.

 

I agree with this sardonic response.

The team are achieving nothing with next to nothing resources regarding the playing staff.

Some people are looking in the wrong places for changes I'm afraid.

 

People who insist on saying 'you can't blame the injuries' are kidding them selves, if you look at our current fit team would you actually expect them to be doing better? were missing about 5 key players... no team can get through that.

 

Threads like this give the press all the ammo they need to call us fickle

 

From fans I talk to I'd say 90% (or more) back Pardew but are frustrated not just by injuries but by how we are playing regardless of injuries. We've played well in matches and got nothing but only against the big clubs, against almost all other opposition this season we've consistently played garbage.

Pardew in for certain (anything else is madness at this stage in my opinion) and expectations of improvements. Re-assess at the end of the season.

Quite happy to be patient and let stability reign for the first time in a long time. He'll get things right. Like the players he hasn't had his greatest season but I don't believe in short term thinking as there is very little evidence its effective unless you have deep pockets (we don't)

 

I'd say Pardew in, but he doesn't have long in my opinion. Or at least shouldn't. Our performances when pretty much full strength this season were uninspired, pedestrian and negative. We seem almost scared of last seasons success and have played well once so far this season (Bordeaux at home).

For me the team needs the relevant improvement in January, which has started well with Debuchy, and Pardew should then be judged on a more balanced side that should be getting results.

There are dangers both ways, if he stays, we will be in transition for a number of games, games that sadly we must and should win. Of he was to leave, who would we get in, personally, we're Martinez we're available, it would make me think bout Pardews tenure. It's not fickle. I just look at what I've seen for the entirety of this season and don't think I've seen a lot that fills me with confidence. Backed by Ashley or not, an very good team has been playing like unmotivated strangers without any real tactical nouse. Very worrying.

 

I have to say I think it is fickle to me because as you say you are looking at one season, you have to give managers 3-5 seasons minimum to me. Sooner or later we're going to have to learn to stick with someone and give them real time to build something. Otherwise we'll just remain in the same scenario. The odd good season, the odd flirt with relegation, the odd average season. The only way we'll ever develop consistency in performance is by giving people a long period of time. Man U, Everton, Arsenal, Stoke tell us that. All consistent performers with one thing in common - managers given genuine time.

I hope Ashley has the stomach to stick two fingers up at the fans wanting the same old changes. Even if we were relegated I wouldn't change. Even if we were relegated and didn't come back up first time I wouldn't change. We have to start to build. He's chosen his man, I hope he sticks with him.

 

All well and good in theory, but watching the team this season I see a side sinking towards relegation without a fight, and getting worse. After seeing us surrender once we go behind in almost every game we play, and judging the body language of key players like our club captain, I see Norwich as Villa beating us easily, before we perhaps bring in a striker.

I agree stability is hugely important, but we could end up drifting into the championship as a result of loyalty to a manager who has lost the team. Like I said, he needs to be judged after the window, and I feel he deserves to do well, I also feel that Debuchy arriving and Cabaye coming back will provide a major fillip against Norwich, but still not hugely enthusiastic.

I like Pardew, I like stability and loyalty, but I love Newcastle United and I wouldn't watch my team whimper down to the championship due to a misguided loyalty towards Pardew, and sadly that is something I can genuinely see happening, it's not fickle, it's a bona fide and considered worry with a large amount of evidence to back it up.

 

That's a very commendable and brave stance to take.

Have you considered that Pardew may actually not be the right man for the job?

It's possible you know - when I compare his tenure to that of say Chris Hughton, it suggests to me that Pardew may be over-rated somewhat.

He's been a manager a very long time but I don't believe he has any major honours to his name - don't misunderstand me here, I don't want him sacked right now, no he should at least be given to the end of the season.

Trouble is, if we all nail our colours to the Pardew mast, he may well come up short - surely if someone like CH can get us back up at the first attempt, Pardew being the "more experienced manager" should be able to conquer the Championship should we be relegated?

I've seen worrying signs from Pardew recently - especially his 'bigging up' of Brighton before the match... it was like he was preparing his excuses in advance.

I'm hopeful that this a rather nasty 'blip' (although 2 wins in 11 games is more than a blip) and that we'll all look back and laugh!

 

Each to their own mate, as I say its all fickle to me as I'm keen to see us finally build. Man U went through worse than this with SAF, Everton did with Moyes. There were fans there saying exactly the same thing you are about risking relegation through misguided loyalty. To me loyalty is exactly that, having the nuts for it regardless how tricky it gets.

 

As much as I don't lie what's going on at the minute, what good will getting rid of him do?
Money to shell out for his contract, loss of players and who would YOU bring in whio could do any more in the current predicament (lack of money etc)
We've dumped too many managers - some of them far too soon!
Remember, when we went down last time, we had a number of managers in the preceeding seasons and a load of players who didn't give a toss!
Getting rid now would result in more of the same!
