I can't understand why he is being played on the left as he is right footed, and Puncheon predominantly left footed plays on the right!
De Ridder has got to run past more players, and pass and cross, he doesn't do this enough. He just passes the ball back... I still rate him.
St Yoshida you have clearly made some errors with your post so to save you some time I have corrected it for you: People are being too kind. Each time he has come on as a sub it has been one great big hell of a mistake and the opposition suddenly become dangerous, he hasn't even put in any decent balls ever, he makes crap runs and is the least skilled player in the prem. Not a great player by any means and he would struggle to make Pompey's first team or their subs bench at the moment. That is the best I can say for him. Sell him quick before any of the other clubs see just how crap he is.
Exactly St Godders. He is the biggest piece of **** we have bought in a long time. How on earth did our scouts mess up this badly? Maybe they just looked at the youtube videos and assumed he was a good player!
Oh my god. You actually rate him. Lets see what he did today. He ran into Chelsea players numerous times. He shot straight at Turnbull from 6 yards out when he was under no pressure. He got booked. That's all he did. He is diabolical and anyone who says otherwise is either blind or stupid, or both.
Yeah, the contrast between him and Puncheon/Do Prado/Ramirez was stark. Chelsea were shaking in their boots whenever one of those three had the ball. Sheer footballing clinic and I fully expect Chelsea to offer a straight player exchange of Mata, Hazard, Oscar for Puncheon, Do Prado, Ramirez which Saints would be mad to accept. How many goals were Saints up before De Ridder ruined the game? Must have been like 6 or 7. Pretty sure he also paid the ref to give that handball as well. And if that weren't enough, he went up into the seats and starting throwing flares on the pitch! After the game, I heard he gave 10,000 pounds to the PST and kicked Le Tiss in the balls.
A) Ramirez wasn;t even in the squad today and B) I'm not just talking about De Ridder today. He was shocking most of the time last year but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Not anymore though. Guly, Ramirez and Puncheon, although they do have bad games, at least have the quality to justify their place in the team. De Ridder doesn't. He is awful and should be sold ASAP.
I was wondering during the match exactly how much of an impact this has on Adkins' decision making, because I started to think about just how bad Lee presumably is in training if De Ridder is getting picked ahead of him. (Not that I'm a Lee fan either).
Exactly. Ramirez had about as big a role in that loss as De Ridder did. When someone points out De Ridder did something good, you dismiss it as oh well, Saints were already down 4-1. But he couldn't have done anything good while Saints were up anymore than Ramirez could have. He hardly played last year. Yep. And as a result, they are all ahead of De Ridder on the depth charts. De Ridder only plays when there is nothing at stake, so where is the problem? Why? He hardly ever plays and therefore is hardly a detriment to the team. He's not on outrageous wages, and it's not like Saints would get a fortune for him. If an offer comes in, then I have no problem with Saints selling him but they have far better things to worry about than getting rid of De Ridder ASAP. In my mind, De Ridder has looked decent in a few Cup matches against lousy sides where he is expected to look good. And he's looked bad against great sides in drubbings where I expect him to look bad. And in pretty much all of those situations it doesn't matter how well he plays anyway. The bottom line is NA doesn't think he is anywhere good enough, and I can dig it. I apparently don't think he's as bad as you do, but what I'm really trying to say is why get so worked up over it? He was useful today as he gave Schneiderlin a rest, and he put in a good effort even if you think the results weren't there. And that's all he was expected to do, so its a bit silly to single him out for harsh criticism.
He is not good enough to come on and make a difference against teams like Chelsea and Arsenal yet that has been what he has been asked to do. He is nowhere near a premier league player. Think Saints need to get a new left winger in this window if lallana is going to be out for longer
To this quote, where the * is I would insert '..been given enough time in first team games to show they have...' the quality to justify their place. I can't say how poor De Ridder is but I can say how a fair few of the team have gone through the they're so s*** argument (SKD, Punch, Yoshida etc) before they have played more games and then gotten a bit of recognition that they are capable of putting in a good game. It's difficult to see De Ridder getting more regular football with saints right now, but if we loan him out and he does get more competitive time on the ball, when he returns he could become a very good impact sub for us.
It's not just a criticism of De Ridder today, there's not many games I've missed since he joined the club and I really can remember him only doing one thing well and that was Reading away to get the equaliser! He really isn't good enough at this level, wasn't good enough in the Championship and has got nowhere close to cult status in my book
I think it is fairly simple, we need to move on a lot of fringe players like SDR, Lee, Chaplow,Seabourne etc, thank them for their efforts last year in getting us up and free up money and space for either new and better players or bring through the young up and coming players to give them a chance. I would rather see a youngst player given a go and fail than bring on someone lie SDR knowing it will make absolutely no positive difference to the outcome of the game
Our rapid promotion has meant many players aren't good enough. Some never were and hardly got a look in and some, like Chaplow, were important to us, but sadly have to move on. Very hard to shift players on good money though, unless we give a helping hand with their wages. However, our squad is still thin, so we have to be careful with that as well. Sometimes you just need a body on the pitch or bench...Aaron Martin and Seaborne for example, if we don't make the signings we want.
Sorry....we will sign Astori and 4 other defenders so Martin and Seaborne will never play....is that better?
