Its been done to death but Williamson can never be allowed to play for the club again. I've never seen a defender so slack at.... defending!

The man can not mark, tackle, anticipate balls, position himself correctly to make tackles and blocks all of which are very important aspects of defending (As a defensive minded amateur player its incredible to imagine that at 23 i could still play professional football because if he can i know i can). The only thing he is any good at is heading, and he is no world beater at this either.

Man needs to go. Rip up his contract and let him go on free, pay him the rest of his wages till the end of his contract by all means but never, never can he step onto the field for us again.

If that performance didn't show Ashley we need MAJOR investment to meet HIS goals then he is not as smart a business person as I give him credit for.

    RANT OVER GRRRRRRRRR

I seen some clown on the other thread telling people not to make a scapegoat out of him...WHY? He is to blame for a lot of our goals conceded and has no defensive (or any other position) qualities whatsoever.

Another dire performance which basically all stems from Ashleys lack of investment in the summer. If he doesn`t want to buy and build a decent squad that is capable of even a top 8 finish then he needs to put all his efforts into finding a buyer for the club. We are going nowhere at the moment apart from down.

So do I my friend. I have to say, he is terrible. He wasn't the only one today but more often than not, he is the worst of the bunch.

Santon, Colo, Willo and even Tiote have all gifted goals to the opposition recently. As the most senior defender on the pitch today who was not playing out of position, Willo needed to take responsibility for marshaling the back four. Truth is, he is not capable of either defending at Premiership level and cannot lead the back line in Colo's absence. Not his fault as his limitations are obvious to us fans, so must be to Pardew et al. They continue to play him and this is the result. The only way it will improve is to buy a quality CB to replace him, Willo cannot do a better job, not because he is uncommitted, but because he cannot.

Totally disagree here mate. He is ****e at heading. He gets no power on his headers, all he is is a big lad and can get his head onto the ball. That does not translate into good heading technique.

Willo is a squad player at very best. That's why we need two centre backs.

I cannot think of anything he is actually good at, his best attribute is being a threat...to us.

I will try not to be harsh here but our defense is a lot better than it used to be, for a change we actually had a reasonable defence. Considering our defense has always been our weak point, it is actually half decent now. I remember time after time for many years we put up with no defensive qualities, our only ever decent defender over the last 15 years or so was Woodgate and maybe Albert, all the the rest have been horrendous. Cast your minds back Colocini for first couple of years was terrible its only since Williamson has come in and stabilised that Colocini has found his feet and now Taylor, the confidence has grew from there as well with age. Williamson has his odd mistakes and can be inconsistent, but to the main as 3rd or 4th choice he is decent enough. The reason we are so poor is because we don't make enough chances and hence we need another winger. As our only real chance makers are Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Marvaeux and there all French and 2 are injured.

I think Williamson is ok as cover for Colo, Saylor and another quality cb... the trouble is he's getting played all the time and his failings are horribly exposed.

Hey guys, not been on here for ages but thought I'd pop on tonight to see what my fellow Toon fans thought of today's game while the wife is still not back from her mates and I'm bored! Came across this article and thought I might as well comment! I couldn't disagree more about willo's heading (as someone else above does), he's hopeless at that too :( one of the worst centre backs I've seen at sjp since I started going in 1989 tbh

What I would give at present for a John McNamee, Brian Kilcline, John McGrath type Centre Half. Rough, no nonsense type players who gave nothing less than 100%.

I really don't rate the lad.
He's a cross between Titus Bramble and Marcellino.

I'd fear for any hope we may have of finishing top of the fair play league, plus the impact it would have on waiting times in the local fracture clinics....<laugh>
