Former Hull City and Preston boss Phil Brown is interested in taking on the role of Plymouth Argyle manager. Brown, 53, has been out of work since being sacked by Preston in December 2011, having previously led Hull City to the Premier League in 2008. "I am interested in the job, along with other vacancies," Brown told BBC South West Sport. “Many clubs in the lower divisions don't match the criteria that I lay down for my own aspirations” "I'm also interested in talking to the Argyle chairman James Brent about where he would want to take the club. " Argyle, who are two points from the bottom of League Two, sacked manager Carl Fletcher on New Year's Day after a 2-1 loss at relegation rivals Bristol Rovers. Former Wolves and Walsall boss Colin Lee has also declared an interest in the Plymouth job, but Argyle say they will not appoint anyone until next week. "If his (James Brent's) ambitions match my own, then I think we will have a good footing from which to go forward," said Brown, who was under consideration for the role of Hartlepool first-team coach in November before talks broke down. "Many clubs in the lower divisions don't match the criteria that I lay down for my own aspirations. "However, it seems that Plymouth can achieve what I want to achieve in football, as long as a structure is put in place which we can adhere to and bring success to the area and supporters. "It was the same scenario at Hull City when I took over, although they had started their ascent up the Football League. "If I can do the same again, with a chosen club, then I'll be doing something right." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20909075?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Wonder if they'll let him get the band back together?
It sounds like a mocking post. The guy is out of work and there are limited jobs in his field. Of course he should be interested in a Plymouth type of job as I believe they are now the largest City never to have graced the top division.
Browny is desperate but is trying to hide it with all this 'matching my aspirations' bull. He comes across as if he'd be doing Plymouth a favour by being their next manager. Maybe he should show a little more humility and he might be back in the football world sooner.
If I was a football club chairman and I read all that cringe inducing bollocks, I wouldn't even give him an interview.
He needs to keep out of the bloody media. Doing interviews like this wont help him whatsoever. He just cant help himself and it infuriates me as I want him to do well.
Is there no end to this egotistical, self opinionated ****ing bellends spoutings? As Chilton's Hundreds said maybe he should show a little more humility. The problem is he hasn't any and I think he actually believes he is the greatest manager there has ever been.
He really hasnt. The only surefire way to guarantee you wont get a job is by talking to all and sundry about your interest in it the day after the previous bloke has been sacked. Chairman dont like that, it portrays a lack of being able to keep your mouth shut and maintaining confidentiality ie a troublecauser.
wrong. as in Milton Keynes is not a City. Also it has a smaller population than Plymouth in the 2011 Census.
You're right actually, fair point. On the city part I was going purely conurbation however I remember MK was expected to be the largest on census predictions prior to 2011. Shows what predictions mean. But still, Hull wasnt the biggest in England never mind Europe despite the fact it was always trotted out by lazy hacks.
Beating his head against a brick wall ,his brain is getting more addled as time goes by. He rode into the EPL on the coat tails of a together squad who had pride and when he fooked them over he destroyed that camaraderie and sullied the name of the Tigers in the process .I personally hope he gets old and gray telling everyone he can walk on water.
Maybe it's about his job seekers allowance , you know, showing that you're making every effort..............
