I have to admit that I'm annoyed that Danny boy has put himself in the shop window in such a manner, and the interview is conducted in a PUB of all places, where clearly the questions have been orchestrated before hand. The Sky interviewer asks "is there still a chance you could stay" Danny Graham replies "yes there is a chance I could stay", and I read that as he's gone! Ok I could be getting my wires crossed here, but this smacks of Pratley all over again, so what's your thoughts on this lads? Do you think he's critical of Laudrup or what? Did he score those resent goals to put himself in the shop window? I'd sooner see Shechter, and Moore go before Danny boy, but this interview must raise some serious doubts on his staying, not happy with him at all, the way I see it, he wants a move! You need to click on the Video on the sky link to get the full flavour from Dannyboy. Not looking 100% commited by that interview though the guy was leeding him into saying stuff as danny doesnt seem the brightest spark plug in the engine there ! I can see his point of wanting to be first pick in games but it dont work like that iff given loads of chances and not delivering eventually you get dropped ! The jan windows usually an expensive time to shop and £3m to norwich a close competitor doesnt seem like good buisness to me ,we dont need the money and need to keep our british contingent up with good players theres defo worst than him to ship out first so i`d wait till summer and ml needs to lay the law down to super star danny boy.
Hi Swans I've read that Newcastle have the shortest odds on his signature. All sorts of chat about Norwich linked with half dozen strikers at the moment. Good luck in the window and rest of the season.
A few things crossed my mind. First, there was a clear sense of ultimatum - play me or i'm gone - about his comments. Second, he wants a chance to "talk to the gaffer" as if he doesn't see him every day in training and ML is so distant and unapproachable that he can't walk up to him whenever he wants and ask for a minute to chat - such bs. Third, uncertainty ... whatever he's on per week its a **** load more than me and its guaranteed whether he is fit or crocked - wish I had the luxury of that uncertainty. He hasn't been playing because earlier in the season when he had chances to score he missed, not had them saved, he ****ing missed. It's a bit like being a surgeon that doesn't cut straight .... At some point the people that do the sewing get fed up of having to deal with crap. He's not expected to score on every chance but he is expected to hit the target. Against Villa, Michu hit the post twice on chances he created himself. Danny missed the goal from 12 yards out on a ball setup for him in the first 15 minutes then smiled and went to sleep til the last few minutes. World of difference between Michu and Danny, world of difference. Much prefer to see Moore or Itay persevered with alongside Michu. They win the ball in the air and are technically better suited to playing one touch with Michu, Routledge and Pablo. They can also beat defenders one on one, while Danny has to be in front of goal to make his mark. Perhaps I shouldn't be this critical but it really irritates .... what a team player he is and so hard done by!
I still rate Danny over Moore and Shekter. Moore is going in the summer anyway as his contract expires, same with Itay when his loan spell ends. Danny doesn't fit so well when we are running at goal but I think he does well when there's confusion in the box. He needs to be in the area not attacking it from deep (which Michu does better anyway). Keep Danny buy another striker and ditch useless, lightweight Itay and Luke 'Im good for a sum total of 5mins per match' Moore. If Danny goes I reckon we will need 2 new strikers as Itay and Moore just aren't Prem quality. I like the look of Aspsa from the vids I've seen (his through balls and passes in dangerous areas seem to be an overlooked facet of his play). Get Aspas, keep Danny and hopefully we can finish 7th-8th in the league.
I get the feeling ML doesn't really rate Graham or Moore and Schechter was probably just a stop gap so I would be surprised if we didn't sign a new striker/attacking midfielder this month and at least one other in the summer.
I really don't understand why we should be considering selling him, unless he's causing trouble behind the scenes.... He cost us £3.5m!!! I doubt we'd get much more for him at this point and certainly not enough to replace him with the difference. It is a concern that he would say "the gaffer didn't give me any reason and hasn't talked to me".. I would have thought ML would be canny enough to head off these types of issues before it got to this stage. That said I imagine he's furious about this interview....
Reading? http://www.footballtradedirectory.com/news/2013/january/swansea-in-good-position-and-have-money.html
I woul keep him and would not let him go to a rival at this stage of the season. If we were mathematically safe then okay but we are not there yet.
I think there is one thing we can be sure of .... DG won't be going any where until it suits HJ and when it does his feet won't touch the ground on the way out .... regardless of noise from the media and silly me-a-big-boy interviews.
Think the interview is in La Parilla restaurant. Looks like his head is in a bit of a mess and he wants to stay but recognises that if he is going to be moved on the best time for him personally to move is now (while he still has a name and people remember he scored 13 goals in the Prem). If he can get a move this month to a Premier side he will get one last big pay day. As he hasn't been near the team I can't blame him really. Not sure Laudrup will be bothered. He has a striker lined up and could use Danny's wages being saved. If we have injuries we have Moore and Schecter anyway.
We don't want to be fuelling any of our rivals' Premier League chances by letting him go now. Balancing what he cost us with what we are likely to get for him, it makes sense to delay any decision until the summer. At least he's started scoring and, who knows, he could go on a run. He did last season after a slow start.
A shame if we lose this player. DG has scored goals at this level and you only have to look at other teams to see how difficult that is for strikers that have cost double or on wages far higher than we pay DG. A club like Swansea cannot afford to sell this type of player to its rivals, its a £60m gamble to sell him in my view. The player may well wish to move on but this should not happen until the summer time at least, while we are still fighting to get 40pts we need guys that can score goals and he is one of them. He has earnt us 4pts this season and that is critical for us, we are not good enough as a team or club to sell off strikers that score goals. I know he will miss some chances but what do we expect for £3.5m quid ?? The British market is over inflated but i think we have had great value from him for that money, every signing is a gamble but we know if we feed danny he will get goals!! maybe not a sackful but enough to keep us ticking over. Im a fan of luke moore who i think dove tails better with Michu, but you cant get away from the fact that DG finds the net and the other strikers dont. We have enough money to keep him here until the summer even if he doesnt get the games he wants, it would be extremly foolish to move him on even if we bring in a new striker. There is no gaurentee that a new striker will do any better and there could be an injury crisis that would decimate our forward players, everything points to us playing safe on this one and keeping here at least until the summer when the club and the player will have a clear view on where the future is heading. DG must stay here to ensure prem survival! remember that his 2goals have given us 4pts, that in itself is enough to prove he has something to offer
By selling him now is a gamble we don't need to take . The boy gives his all when he plays and imo a better option than the other three strikers we had. We know he can score goals at this level and if a replacement is brought in now and he's gone who's to say the new player will fit in immediately, look how many games it's taken for the new boys to settle in (Michu excepted). Two goals in two games when we haven't been playing well is a very good return
Also the fee doesn't make sense to me. £3m? He cost us £3.5m when he was only proven in the championship, now he's a proven Premiership scorer his value should be higher. When we were hearing rumours of £6m I thought that was fair, but we should not lose money on a player who is a safer bet now than he was 18 months ago. Bad business.
He won't go for £3m , HJ will not allow a loss on a proven premier league player, the guy is under contract if he wants to go the buying club must do it under our terms or not at all
It's very clear from that video that he wants first team football and he won't get it at Swansea apparently. He has been badly treated insofar that he hasn't been informed about his situation and has been left to put things together himself. Bad man management, and could have been so easily avoided by an arm around the shoulder and keeping him in the loop. Think he will go tbh.
Badly treated ? Ffs he's on 10s of thousands a week and has had opportunities, he's started the last 2 games and scored in both. Also he done another interview saying he's happy to fight for a place. He's not one of your mercenaries that's for sure
Bad man management ?? Problem is that too man yfootballers have their arses kissed these days !! DG is a part of the team until he doesnt want to be, thats Laudrups view in todays press call, in fairness to ML he has said the same from day 1. He tells the players they are not his prefered starter and that the option is there if they want to move on or stay and fight for their place, either way is ok with Laudrup and as far as i can see what else is there to say ? Maybe players miss being told they are fcuking awesome when they score a goal like Brenden used to do ?? Time will tell, but i think DG wants to play games and has been told he will get games but not as many as he would maybe like, ie , not first choice. DG is a a guy that will do his best while on the pitch but i get the feeling that what has scuppered him with Laudrup is his off field activity. Laudrup was talking about this player scoring 15-20 goals in the prem league last summer, there has obviously been a re-think on that statement since then and im guessing its not all about his on field limitations. DG should stay until we find somebody who can taske over from him, its just daft to sell when there is no back up for goals if Michu is injured. The cost if we ever sold would surely be in the £5-6m quid price range,he is after all a proven premier league striker now
Can't see Danny Graham staying after this interview!! come on you cant blame the lad, He has obviously had a meeting with sir mike and he now knows where he stands and he will know he will be down the pecking order. I was hoping he would stay but understand completely if he wants to go where he can get regular football....Good luck to him whatever happens...
