Good for him. Scandinavian football is pretty similar to the British style, and obviously they all know the lingo over there, so it's become trendy to look at the Nordic leagues for managerial talent. If he keeps Sarpsborg up this season and gets them into the top half next, he'll probably land himself a job in the Championship or League One without much difficulty (if he wants to come back home). Laudrup, Berg and Solbakken have already made that leap in recent times, and Solskjaer is increasingly being considered. Sort of thing more footballers should be doing, going abroad for experience or working in grassroots/non-league, rather than hoping for a cushy ride on the Sky punditry gravy train or a reputation-based appointment as manager in the English pro leagues.
`kinell Boab your new avatar looks like me the morning after a skinfull ! Except he has more teeth than me
It's one of those strange things when you think just how many Norwegian players there has been in the UK, that there has been very few if any successful managers from Norway in the UK. That manager with the wellies at Wimbledon stands out as being particularly woeful.
The interesting thing is that none of the Norwegian managers that have been in England managing did any good in Norway. So I was astonished when I saw Berg and Solbakken was wanted in England.
He was in VÃ¥lerenga and didn’t do very well in the top flight in Norwegian football. And when the **** hit the fan he jumped ship and went to Wimbledon and we all know how that went
Henning Berg only managed two clubs before he came to Blackburn, didn’t do that well and in both clubs he had to go after internal turmoil. StÃ¥le Solbakken was manager in 3 clubs before he came to Wolverhamton. In FC Köbenhavn he started well but it went south quit quickly and he had to leave. In Köln he did more or less the same as he now is doing in Wolverhamton and had to leave. I think both would find it difficult to get a job in Norwegian top flight football
The interesting thing about Egil Olsen is that he has done well with the Norwegian national team but not so good with club teams. And the national team is playing terrible football, it’s like Warnocks hoof ball.
