I came across this just now... although it does mock the rumours it got me thinking.... at what point would Colo be looking for a move... or indeed be sold by the club?
I think he is essential to our forward plans so would not want to see that happen in a million years.....

    http://thespectatorsview.com/2013/0...-transfer-rumour-yet-colo-in-talks-to-leave/?

On twitter today, I stumbled across perhaps one of the most laughable rumours yet – Fabricio Coloccini to San Lorenzo. I don’t particularly like to bring up unlikely transfer stories, but this is too comedic to ignore.

The rumour surfaced just over a week ago in The Mirror and has since been making the rounds in several minor footballing websites in and around Britain as well as Argentina.

    The article reads:

“San Lorenzo are negotiating with Newcastle over an audacious swoop to take Fabricio Coloccini back to the country of his birth this January.

The Argentina international played for San Lore in the 2000/01 season, on loan from AC Milan, and the club are relying on his desire to return to his boyhood club to make the deal happen.”

Many of the ridiculous rumours we here nowadays are created by young journalists trying to make a ‘break through’ when they can’t find any other source of inspiration. However, it appears as though the author of this article in The Mirror does have some substance to his writing.

The San Lorenzo club President, Matías Lammens, had this to say on Radio La Red:

“We know he is a fan and wants to return, so there could be a possibility.

“It’s not impossible,” he added, “but of course the only thing that can accelerate the situation is Fabricio’s intentions.”

Although San Lorenzo are one of Argentina’s five grandes, they are currently fighting a relegation battle and to see our loyal captain move back to Argentina at a time when we most need him is in my opinion utterly ridiculous.

As a fan, I can sometimes get overly-excited by transfer rumours. But I don’t think anyone will be believing this one. Having been named in last season’s PFA Team of the Year, Coloccini certainly isn’t surplus to requirements in England.

Amid increased speculation over Demba’s future at the club, we can’t afford to lose any of our senior players. If we are to turn around our fortunes soon, we need our most experienced players to step to the plate and lead us out of the misery that we’ve got ourselves into.

However, I think that we can safely assume that Fabricio will not be one of those players leaving this January.

I think this rumour gained momentum after Craig Burley repeated it, not sure if it was via a Newspaper, or if he commented on tv, but I believe someone posted a thread about it.

Wouldn't like to see Colo leave, but if his heart isn't in it any more and he wants to be away, we might as well let him go and start building for the future.

Don't see how he could just rescind his contract like. goal.com aren't exactly reliable, lets hope those quotes are fabricated.

However if it is true I don't blame Colo for a second, hes already been down to the championship with us and back up again, and in his eyes we could be headed down again, hes coming to the end of his career now and probably wants some stability.

The first...second of many to jump ship IMO.

Colo's been a good servant to us and I'll always wish him the best except if he plays against us for another team.

Got his name and # on my latest top. <wah>

To be fair, goal.com are absolutely ****e and I am fairly sure these quotes will have been taken out of context.

OR, it could be the start of a mass exodus <whistle>

I think this is rubbish, wasn't it his dad who told him he had to see his days out at Newcastle.

    Nufc.com now reporting this....

Unconfirmed comments from Osvaldo Coloccini - father of United's Fabricio and youth team director at Argentinian side San Lorenzo - made to a TV station in Argentina and reported on the Goal website:
"Fabricio wants to play for San Lorenzo and he is trying his best to find an elegant way to leave Newcastle. We don't know what Newcastle will come up with, but Fabricio is trying to rescind his contract because he wants to be back at San Lorenzo.

"His contract is very good and that could complicate things in an attempt for him to leave Newcastle."

Colo's current deal at SJP runs to 2016 but the link with Buenos Aires-based San Lorenzo first surfaced last month in a number of English newspapers, along with quotes from the club president to a local radio station:

"We know he is a fan and wants to return, so there could be a possibility. It's not impossible, but of course the only thing that can accelerate the situation is Fabricio's intentions."

Just got to hope that this is total nonsense, but in the back of my mind, l can't help wondering if this is why, Colo has seemed so off the mark recently.
It would be disastrous if true, as the destabilizing effect this would have on the squad would be significant.
We are struggling to find one new quality CB, finding two would be impossible.
Really don't want to contemplate this scenario at all, why would he have changed his feelings so drastically after having signed his long term deal, l thought this was designed for him to see his career out at Newcastle?
