cheers for being the only one to answer the main point of my post! Must have read it the wrong way, suppose it's equally likely he was dissapointed to not be fit for the game. But seriously, do you think you'll get him or will he go to a club that has better chances of promotion sooner rather than later? Not that i'm aware who's in for him
Yo-yo is great and as jock says £60m at least for promotion and its now 4-years at £12m each season parachute payments. WBA have made a business out of bouncing up and down, and now find themselves in the nice position of being able to compete, as they improve their squad year on year. They will never bring in superstars on megga bucks and keep control of pay and contracts, so that they have a well run club and if they are relegated they don't have to sell. You dont need to be a Ridsdale or a Abravitch, just look at Wigan and Stoke who improve a bit each season, and now they are established clubs in the prem earning a profit. Wigan made their first profit for 7-years last week Just get me the fook out of this league and I'm happy
Danger of going up and back down quickly is all too obvious with Portsmouth and Birmingham. Possible meltdown. Dont mind betting it could be a long time before blackburn, bolton or wolves see premiership again. I'm sure their fans were confident of coming straight back with their parachute payments. Those payments are worthless if youre paying players 50k a week in championship with no way of offloading them. Dont see the parachute payments helping any of the aforementioned clubs at the moment. We're a good way from being ready for the Premiership imo but a serious spending spree in summer by gfh might rectify that. It wont be done with two bit loanees and cast offs though unless we're very lucky
The t'internet is awash with rumours that we've bid £1.3m for Dexter Blackstock. I remember watching him when he played for Oxford and being touted as the next Theo Walcott. He seems to have gone off the boil though and 83 goals in 283 appearances is not a great return.
Good point, and I for one would be happy if we went back to the EPL and stayed there like Stoke City have. My only concern is that it appears you can't stay in the EPL and play good football, unless you have the multi millions in the bank to splash on players. It's a difficult choice, hump it and run, with solid defending football in the EPL or on the deck passing and movement in The Championship or League One. To be fair, Swansea & WBA have done really well this season and play some really good football, so maybe there is a way, you just have to have the right manager in charge.
£1.3m for Blackstock is a joke and the same money that woods went to the foxes for, so no chance at that price. Eire I hear what you're saying, but the difference between WBA and pompey is that they paid top wages for garbage who were not worth it, and nobody wanted them when they were relegated. WBA have never paid huge wages or given long contracts and even when they do sign a top player, there is a penalty clause inserted into the contract:- if relegated salary falls by x% etc. So its managed and controlled. Wolves do however have a fairly decent squad, and not on huge wages, but have a crap manager. Blackburn have top wages and long contracts and crap managers. Birmingham had crap owners who wanted to live the dream, but are wanted abroad for fraud and worse, which means they wasted their parachute payments. Bolton crap manager and should be much higher up the league. look at Blackpool and what they did, managed wages and contracts and are still punching above their weight even without the manager they had. Prem footy for us means a huge increase in revenues from gates alone, putting us on a par with the bigger prem sides. So as long as its a gradual rebuild without being silly, we'll be comfortable because we'll be able to afford better players and contracts than WBA etc. its all a case of managing correctly and bringing in the right players with the right contract. Leeds in the prem has got to be a massive draw for good players
'Bolton crap manager and should be much higher up the league.' Is that a reference to Dougie Freedman, Owen Coyle or both?
Code: Coyle took them down, but poor old Dougie has been having a worse time of it than Coyle since he joined them, so not sure about Coyle yet as he has the problem of sorting out the so-called big players who are still around
Actually Wigan did need a Ridsdale/Abramovich relative to their level. His name's Dave Whelan, and without him they'd be in the non-league right now. Disgraceful club for the way they spent beyond their means, in my view. Stoke and West Brom, on the other hand, are exemplary compared with some of the other teams in that league and trying to artificially barge their way out of this one.
Remember how excited Warnock got when Pompey where having their sale. I reckon its gonna be exactly the same with Birmingham....
His volley og was class though
