I've heard lots of lads talk about this lad like he was Messi and how he is way ahead of other players and has to be found a place in the team. Then I watch him and see a player who is a ghost in a majority of games, doesn't shoot very often, or assists the striker that much or links the midfield. He loses possession too regularly and too easily and when he does, gives up the chase. He will never be a proper striker and score the amount of goals he should and he isn't involved enough to warrant the automatic place he seems to command every week. I also see a team void of creativity, pace and goals that is still hovering just above the drop zone. I'm not saying the lad can't play, just he isn't offering us anything in the role he is used presently. I struggle to remember his good games but regularly see his poor ones and would love to see this player that is so vital for our club and so far ahead of all the rest that we can't do without.
Think you will find I have been pretty consistent on sessegnon all season pal. Also, like I have said, 1 good game for every 7 or 8 poor ones is exactly why we are struggling only 4 points from the drop in January. We don't look like scoring and rely on snap shots and occasional half chances. Fletcher is a striker that will get 15 goals but if our 2nd striker only weighs in with 5 or 6 then we will have serious problems. If we do bring in another forward, it won't be to replace Fletcher that's for sure. I just don't see anything at all with any kind of consistency, just what this lad brings our team, apart from adding to our weak as piss attacking at times.
Don't think Sess knows where he is supposed to be playing or what he is supposed to be doing to be fair sort that out and we should see him back to his form of last season. I don't see why a few of our players are picked if we go on form, Sess, McClean, Larrson etc. all these have been poor all season not sure why and if it is looking for a scapegoat then fine there's 3 there. The whole team bar maybe 2/3 have not stepped up lads and at the minute are cruising as they know they will be picked regardless, is this down to the squad being weak as piss thus giving MON no option or does MON see something different to us? Again I'm not sure but, something has to give soon or this season will be yet another struggle at the wrong end of the table again and, next season will be yet another rebuild job.
He didn;t have a great game last night BUT the defence and central midfield was FAR FAR worse than Sessegnon - Other than one tackle that Colback made on Suarez (which, admittedly, was excellent) I don't remember seeing him do much. Against Spurs and Man CIty Sessegnon was excellent - Man City's multi million pound team couldn't handle him so he is obviously talented but he needs some support. Cattermole is a massive miss (our biggest in my opinion) - Also last night was Henderson, Suarez, Sterling and Gerrards' close to best performances of the season that I have seen - Suarez is an awesome player and when he's playing like that he's unstoppable (should've been banned for last night though after the awful high, intentional studs up challenge on the Stoke keeper) Defensively and in Central Midfield we were terrible last night - Kenwyne Jones Battered Liverpools' defence for Stoke and they couldn't hande him - Wickham would've done exactly the same IMO so I can't understand him not getting any part of the game (especially if we're bringing on McFadden!). It wouldn't surprise me if Connor Wickham requests a transfer this month and I wouldn't blame him. Man Utd struggled with him as have the defences he has played against this season. Skrtel committed an identical foul to the one McClean got booked for and never even got spoken to??
With you about Whickham marcus a mate and I were saying the same after the Spurs game put him on first half to batter them then put Fletcher on to clean up, would have been a boost for him as well.
I am totally at a miss why Wickham isn't given more game time either. I have seen a huge improvement recently and with more games that would improve again. Surely he would have been a far better option than Campbell or McFadden? I think he will move on, if not this window then definitely in the summer and I too wouldn't blame him. I'd be very disappointed mind. If he had been given the same chance as sessegnon, I reckon he would have far more goals and be a far better foil for Fletcher as well.
good points. as per Marcus, why Whickham didn't get a game last night in place of an anonymous Sess is beyond me. it looked like MON gave up at half time to try some random formations, all of which were gash coz our 2 CBs and CM's were woeful. i wish he would try Fletch and Whickham, dropping Sess to left or right-side midfield but extremely unlikely....
We arent going to play 4-4-2, hardly anyone does anymore. Sess is tailor made for the middle of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 the problem at the minute is that the 2 (colback, larsson) aren't good enough. Get someone creative in the 2 next to catts and get the ball to Sess high up the pitch and he'll thrive. He's constantly getting the ball too deep beating a couple of players then getting trebled up on
This is spot on. You don't remove your best player to suit a failing system, you remove the dog **** around him and shuffle the system to suit. Seb is ****ing woeful CM, Colback is like a ****ing rabbit in the headlights at time, he has great control, but then so do these mad Asian tricksters who can do keepy ups for hours on end. We must bring in a physical midfielder and drop the 'in the hole' formation, as we don't have the players in the defensive roles to back up such a fluid system.
Cest, you are spot on with your summation of Sess although i've never seen it written that he is like Messi, i wish to **** he was. That said i could easily scrub the name Sess and replace it with any one of our Midfielders names and the story would be the same. None of them have produced for us yet this season barr the odd game against City (which i missed) The formation is wrong and the players in that formation are wrong, it's not just one man that's letting us down.
I don't think he is our 'best' player personally and to be the best in the shower of ****e he plays with isn't exactly an endorsement. Our whole shape, attacking threat and the reason we are struggling is in the whole down to using a player who just isn't dangerous or a goal threat as the '2nd striker'. He doesn't work hard enough out of possession for me and is often wasteful in it and his little circus tricks are just a waste of time. He simply isn't creating chances for the team and most of Fletchers goals are defensive errors or scraps and half chances. The one assist he got was a complete mishit that fell to Fletcher the other week and he isn't contributing with goals either. As for teams not playing 4-4-2 that's maybe true of the bigger clubs as they have plenty of attacking options. We don't. Most of the other teams outside of the top 4 or 5 DO play 2 strikers and especially at home. Also, who said it was all of a sudden the right thing to do to go 1 up front? Its a trend thing that a lot of managers have bought into. Doesn't make it right or the only option. I just dont see this great player in Sessegnon that some do and would happily sell him to fund better options for the team.
Pessonally, I would prefer to see Sess played as a winger, because I don't think he looks comfortable in his present role..I would also like to see Wickham given far more game time as he has looked very lively when he has come on..
I'll prob get stick for this comment but I'm just going to put it out .. Sess carnt finish and we struggle to find a role for him , oneil as already said that he had his head turned by the transfer talk in the summer .he is a player in demand and we could get a big fee for him so just asking you guys would it be worth cashing in and maybe investing the cash in two v gd players maybe 3 for the team? I think sess is the most gifted player to ever were our shirt but...sometimes if something doesn't click maybe best for both parties I know loads of you will think I've had to many shandys
The concern is replacing him, we will struggle to find another flair player, so we will be looking at replacing him with more workmanlike players. Is that the direction we wanna go?
Spot on and I've been saying this for quite some time now No and that's not the only option. Sess isn't that good that we would fall apart if he left and who is to say we wouldnt bring in 2 or 3 pacey, skilful players who have an eye for goal as well? We can ill afford to lose the goals that Fletcher brings to the team but we would be no worse off playing Wickham/new signing instead of Sess and playing Fletcher as the 2nd striker instead imo. Mignolet RB, JOS, CH, Rose Catts RM, CM, Johnson Fletcher Hoarau Sess on the bench along with Larsson, Gardener and McCLean would be far better imo as an attacking unit and options
I think there is a case for as someone said on here build the squad around sess with a formation to suit get rid of the sh@t that surrounds him but the prob is oneil is very set in his ways and likes a certain type of player and as we have already seen does not like to adjust the formation which is a massive worry because we can all see that sess carnt play in the pos he is at the min I totally agree we won't find another flair player like sess not without spending 30 odd million but oneil is know for having a workmanlike team and maybe sess doesn't fit . But I don't think it's a way we should go no
The logical move, as someone's said, is to play Sess wide, rather than drop him, anyone coming in for Sess WILL be an inferior player. Connor Fletch Sess CM (Morrison) Johnson Catts CDM (either Sissokho, Cana back, Veloso) Morrison is the achievable, ball playing CM with an eye for a pass and a goal for me, he'd cost a lot, and be hard to shift, but he is perfect for what we are looking for, and rarely injured.
I just don't get the comment that ANYONE coming in for Sess will be inferior? How do you know that? Are you honestly saying that isn't another player out there anywhere in Europe that is better than Sess? Really? I just dont see the same player you do mate. I see a talented lad with little tricks that brings nothing of much value to the table for the majority of the games he plays in. He disappoints far more than he excels imo. Far more.
I think the issue is we all know sess need to be moved from his position were not gettin the best out of him and its not helping fletch but will oneil change it I'm not so sure and if that's the case the I would think that maybe it would be best to get the cash for sess but like I said I would not like to go down this road if we could help it
