Don't forget to smile sweetly at him then LTF, that should clinch the deal.

Found this article directly comparing Simmo and MD.... he's definitely more attacking...

    http://thepremierleagueowl.com/newcastle-mathieu-debuchy-statistics-comparison-with-danny-simpson/

Lille full-back Matthieu Debuchy will be a Newcastle player very shortly, so here are some numbers and statistics from his season so far – additionally there are couple of direct comparisons with Danny Simpson’s campaign to date.

Obviously factor in your own opinions about the standard in Ligue 1 and the quality of opposition before drawing too many conclusions. The numbers do not include Simpson’s performance in last night’s game with Everton.

    – Debuchy has made 15 appearances so far this season.

    – He averages 2.1 interceptions per game.

    – He makes, on average, 3.1 defensive clearances per appearance. Danny Simpson, has an average of 5.1.

    – Both players are dribbled past 0.3 times per game, and they each block 0.1 shots in every fixture.

    – Danny Simpson is dispossessed more infrequently (0.8/game) than Debuchy (1.3/game).

    – Debuchy completes twice as many crosses per game (1.5 vs 0.7).

    – Simpson has the higher pass completion rate (82.7% vs 77.2%).

    – Statistically, Debuchy is far superior in the air, winning on average 3.9 aerial duels per game to Simpson’s 0.4.

    – The Frenchman also completes marginally more tackles per game (2.2 vs 2.0).

Stats aren't everything. The passing thing could be due to the fact that Debuchy attempts and completes quality passes, where as Simpson attemps more simple ones.

    Debuchy is easily better.

    Exactly.
Sod the higher pass completion rate when all he does is pass the ball to Willo or to Krul the entire game.

Although credit to him, he has at least threatened in attack the past few games, but No, he's not what we want to start at RB.

He's the sort of player that I am very happy to have as a squad player but we do want better for our starting RB

Regardless of how maligned Willo and Simpson are by sections of our support, I thank them warmly for their efforts for us in the last few years. Willo has hit a level too high for him in all honesty and Simpson, although he has done well, is just a little limited as a natural footballer.

In an ideal world you'd have the likes of Simpson and Raylor stick around as back up. Whereas I think Raylor doesn't mind the utility role, the fact that Simpson/Willo can only play one position limits their opportunities and will see them move on. I'd wish them well though as they gave 100% every time they have been on the pitch. Simpson gets plenty of stick for not signing a contract, which always make me laugh as not a single person has a clue what has been offered or what has gone on behind the scenes. Its all part and parcel of football, as with Ba, and as a supporter I feel its best just to judge them on their commitiment when playing. Ba, Simpson and Willo were all first class in this regard.

Debuchy is an outstanding player and I look forward to seeing him even if I disagree with the policy of putting round pegs in square holes.

Agreed. Have no wish to slate either Willo or Simpson, who have always tried as hard as the can and have sometimes done well. I'll be the first to shake their hand should they want to move on. I just want better.

I thought that this deal was only going to happen once Ba has defo gone.

Looks as though Chelsea are having another look at Ba's knee. :/

    Took this from the Indy.
Looks like Pards pushed the board to be flexible on their 25 yr old recruitment ceiling.

Alan Pardew has admitted he had to persuade the Newcastle United board to break their policy of not recruiting players over the age of 25 to land the France right-back Mathieu Debuchy.
Newcastle completed the signing of the 27-year-old for £.4.7 million today after the former Lille team-mate of Yohan Cabaye passed a club medical. "I have to say getting Debuchy over the line has been difficult in terms of the policy we've got," said Pardew. "He's 27 so you could argue we have broken that already.
"I saw him [Debuchy] on Wednesday night and it was difficult to explain the situation we're in because, in the summer, when he was first meant to be coming he probably thought we were going to be a top-eight side.
"It was a different conversation but nevertheless I think he understands we have had some unusual issues to deal with this year. If we can get our best team out there, there is no doubt we have a great side.
"I'd like to think our fans are more knowledgable than they are given credit for. I'd like to think, when they look at the teams we're putting out and the team we could put out, they know that we're a million miles from there. Mike Ashley [the owner] has to be even more supportive in this window, he has to find the extra money for a striker because we're not going to find a striker for the money we've received for Demba Ba.
"Debuchy's addition is going to help. Our distribution at the back has been a key area. It has to improve. He will definitely improve that and he willdefend that side of the pitch as well as anyone in the country.
"The problem is getting a striker in during the window and it's not easy. We have got Papiss [Cissé], who has suffered a little bit because our midfield has not been as strong this season. If I can get Cabaye fit again, I'm a bit stronger in there and we can play Papiss through the middle more which is best for him.
"It depends which sort of striker we get. There are a couple of options. We do need a goalscorer. Whether it's a striker or a wide player he needs to be a recognised goalscorer."

    Great news about Debuchy.

If I was told we were only going to sign one more player I'd be more interested in a CB than a striker. We need one of each though tbh. My concern is that we will sign a striker for £10m and then do nothing else. Colo is out of form, Taylor is rarely fit and our cover is below par. The rest of the team I'm alright with (to be able to achieve what we want in future - top half, just not this season probably!!) just a CB (or two) and a striker.
