this season has been crap and i cant really see it get much better? I think rather than bring in a load of more players to try and build a team that will keep us up. i think we should be building a team that will get us back up next year and also serve as a foundation to a team that will in the long term keep us in the premiership for a long time. the likes of norwich west ham and swansea have had good teams and have just built round them. we on the other hand have just been swapping players round like there is no tomorrow. Mark hughes could not even tell you who his best 11 were which really sums up the last two seasons for us. in my view Harry should be asking all are players who are willing to stick around for one year in the championship and building a team around them. Get in a players that will drop a league knowing there is a big fat bonus in it for them if we get back up. not sure if any one else thinks this way.
Queens, I refuse to give up until it is mathematically impossible. Until then and with Harry in charge, I still and will continue to have faith. That is primarily because will have Harry. if we still have Hughes, I would have wiped us out before Xmas. I'm putting all my faith in Redknapp to work his magic, because fook knows ............. that is what we need. Don't give up just yet!
I dont think this would be quiting whilst we are ahead. I think that it is our best chance of staying up and if we go down we are in a stronger position. We need players who will put the effort in and fit a club of our size and stature. We also need a bit of financial common sense as well Bosingwa refusal to sit on the bench wasn't just to do with his belief that he is better than Onouha it was to do with his belief that he is too ig a name to sit on the bench for little old QPR. Give me Charlie Austin and Chris Eagles over Remy and Joe Cole
I'm in full agreement with you on this one. Build for next year. Come back up stronger, just like Newcastle and West Ham did. Keep those willing to fight, cut anyone not willing to drop down for one year. If they're not willing to do that, they evidently don't care enough, and are thus part of the problem! Bring in young, hungry players who are more than good enough for the Championship and having something to prove in the PL. We've been shown by Norwich and Swansea that their way is far superior to ours and it would be silly not to try and emulate them.
If, as some reports suggest, Redknapp is to be given money to sign even more well-known players, this seems like an insane gamble to me. Fair enough if Fernandes and co. genuinely have bottomless pockets and can afford to run the club at a loss in perpetuity, never seeing a return on the money pumped in - a mini-Abramovitch scenario. But if either their finances of their patience prove to have limits then you have to wonder about the longer term prospects for the club. Loans would make sense. But surely there can be no more permanent signings on massive wages? If any other club were contemplating this, my sense is that most of us would be wondering at their folly.
i hate to say it but i think we are down to be honest,so lets start building a team to get us back, hungry players who want to play for the shirt
I think that getting relegated could be the least of our problems. I can't think for one minute that Harry is contracted to us if we are relegated and there are no guarantees that TF will hang around if we drop down?. We have to get rid of the big earners and baggage right now or we could be in serious trouble. Due to the massive financial benefits of staying in the prem, I've got a feeling TF is going to try and buy are safety. Not a good combo
Harold has a contract taking him well beyond the end of next season. If he doesn't fancy the championship he'll have to resign with no pay off. I don't doubt he will if a premiership or international opportunity comes up. TF and colleagues own the vast majority of the debt that the club is racking up - no way 3rd parties lenders would touch us in the current climate. Unless he is prepared to write this off, he can't walk away without a buyer.
I was all doom and gloom about us getting relegated last season but we managed to stay up thanks to a poor performance by the officials at the Stoke vs Bolton match on the last day (and despite Joey Barton's best efforts at Man City). There will be a few twists and turns before the relegation places are decided but I'm convinced the Great Escape won't be on the cards again for QPR. Too much to do in too little time and when you are given statistics like all teams who were on 10 points on the 1st January went down (14 previously and we'd be the 15th) it puts things into perspective. Is Harry likely to walk away if we drop? I have no idea if he has an escape clause in his contract or not but I can't say I'd blame him for doing a runner. There is a big difference between watching us be piss poor on Match of the Day and actually seeing the clowns playing for us up close. So, what now? Does Harry get cash from TF to bolster the squad for the umpteenth time? Fernandes said last season that he was here for the long haul and relegation wouldn't affect the ambitions he and the board have for the club. The proof of that particular event will be in the eating of Championship pudding, he may not like the taste after all. The dreams of a new stadium look even further away now. I have been astounded at the performances of the team from the opening day humping against Swansea to the Billy Smarts Circus display against Liverpool last weekend. With chances of more heavy defeats on the cards against the Scum, Spuds and Citeh this month we will start the last third of the season anchored to the bottom of the division looking like getting a worse points tally than Derby before our fate is sealed. Poor old Harry is still banging the drum and thinks that with a couple of new faces things could turn around but who on earth would want to come to W12 to help out a lost cause like us? Only those who can be lured with the big bonus promises for keeping us up and an open door policy should we drop. Mercenaries in other words, and don't we have enough of those already? Harry even said things would pick up when Bobby Zamora came back from his injury. Heaven help us if that is our only hope. Still, at least I won't have to pay as much for my awful seat and we get more games in the Championship, so not all bad!!
I keep saying this.......the owners are in a real quandary imo. The rewards for staying up may just convince them to splash a bit more this month. These people are known to speculate to accumulate and I won't be surprised if we go for staying up. A huge gamble I agree, but it COULD work. It's not our money and only the people who's money it is can make the decision to gamble or not.
Good point. I seem to recall making the young man's error of believing that we'd bounce back pretty swiftly from the 1996 relegation.
I really don't think winning the Championship is easy. I think it is very hard. Which is why I want us to plan for trying to win it now, as well as in the summer.
It can be. In recent years Foolham, Reading (twice) and Newcastle have shown that with a half decent manager and motivated players you don’t need much quality to absolutely walk it. We did it with a group of committed and motivated players who weren't much if any better than the teams around them but we also had one stand out star. Crystal Palace are doing this at the moment but less successfully as the squad isn't as good as ours was and Zaha isnt as effective as Adel was. I went on a work coporate to the Palace Blackburn game and they walked it with my namesake and Delaney at centre back winning 3-0. Delaney and Damage in the league's 3rd place team who play arguably its best football!! That is surely not a difficult league!! Currently we have the manager part just need to start the process of ensuring we have committed and motivated players. I'm sure we could also retain or acquire a few star individual's who ensure we get the goals. Hope it doesn't come to it of course but more just wanted to respond to this as a general comment because while it is a tight and entertaining league with no stand out teams. This is only because of the lack of a gap in quality between the top and the bottom so the teams are equally average. When a half decent team appears they are of course promoted or the indviduals are poached by prmeiership teams. Therefore the myth is built up that it is a difficult league. Teams are generally made up of a couple of genuine talents and backed up by some try hard but technically useless types. Look at how average the squads for teams like Hull now and they are in second. If you average 2 points a game in the Championship you win the leage or get promoted. In the premiership you will struggle to get a champions league spot
I don't think anyone is saying that winning the Championship or even getting promoted is easy but simply that realistically its the only game in town for us now. Given the stakes involved the owners may yet be tempted to gamble again in this window but it would be foolhardy IMO. I'm desperately hoping they are truly on board for the long haul as they have said before in which case they should spend the money on employing some good contractual lawyers to deal with the mess that MH created and start building the new stadium ready for our next revival.
Just for the record 12th, the OP wasnt me..It was my mate who stole my name and now masquerades as me ! he's a top bloke though ! Personally i think its possible but improbable that we'll get out of jail this season. I hated the championship. Crap teams, crap grounds and sh**e coverage. Come back Colin, we need you !!
If we go down thinking we just have to turn up to win promotion we'll be heading for League One. This 'team' of ours would struggle to be mid-table in the Championship with the shyte they've produced this season. Wolves, Blackburn and Bolton are struggling this season and we're as bad or worse than any of them were last season. All this talk of a great escape is bollox and the sooner everyone realises this the better. If we sign more multi-million players on silly money we'll get what we deserve but not what the true supporters deserve...
