I agree that depth in the squad is a good thing. I'm just not sure that the argument that if we still had RVP, we would have all of the goals we've scored so far this season from Walcott, Giroud and our midfielders + a load more from RVP. I think they would have been spread around the team as they are now.

When we sold him, I thought it was going to severely weaken us and for the first part of the season we were struggling for goals. But now we've scored more at this point than we had last season.

And in terms of raw figures, we're still getting the goals even without RVP

I'm not making a case for it being a good thing he's left, I just think it might not turn out to be as bad as we first feared.

These are all league games where I feel we could have got something if van Persie had still been playing for us. So yes, we do miss him.

    Arsenal 0 0 Sunderland
    Stoke 0 0 Arsenal
    Arsenal 1 2 Chelsea
    Norwich 1 0 Arsenal
    Aston Villa 0 0 Arsenal
    Everton 1 1 Arsenal
    Arsenal 0 2 Swansea

I agree with what has been said so far i think.

We now have several players scoring goals and i think we will end up with a handful of players on 10-20 goals by the end of the season. We have more goals than this stage last season so we are obviously not struggling to find the net in general! BUT we have missed RVP in the tight games - it is in the games where we are playing **** and there is only a goal in it - that is when RVP creates magic moments and gets points.

Any club of any size would miss the loss of RVP. It won't be as bad as many predicted as i'm confident we will remain in the top 4 and the rest of the team will pull together, but of course we miss him.

The answer to that is in the second half of my post... ie many of those goals from midfielder were coming in the high scoring matches... RVP use to get us those solitary goals that converted a draw into a win..it's all about points.

Truth is midfielders tend to join in the goal scoring fun when the whole team is playing well and usually dominating the opposition. Real goal scorers get the goals to win matches when the whole team is playing ordinary or even being outplayed.... that is why the likes of RVP are like gold dust.

RVP is better than all our other strikers put together.

    That's the truth.

He's only going to score 30 this season, not good enough for a club our size

This, almost definitely this! RVP and Chico have won Man Utd points this season single handedly by scoring match winning goals when things were not going for the team. Walcott & Co don't do that.

His quality is undisputed....and if we look at it from a non Arsenal point view for once, it is difficult to deny that a player of his brilliance finishing his career without a league winners medal of any sort would be a minor tragedy.

We sold the best striker in the EPL. For years Arsenal were crying out for a world class striker, we had one at the club, and we got rid of him. Out of all teams we sold him to, we sold him to none other than Manchester United.

RVP is an out and out elite world class player with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Falcao etc. A consistent goal making machine.

Throw Chelsea and Spurs strikers in there as well, the guy is above and beyond anything else in the PL, that's the honest truth

RVP is genuinely world class...of course you miss him.

You are coping without him but you miss him.

I don't think he is. Suarez plays around poor players (compared to him), if he moved to a better team I'm not sure he'd standout as much. RVP is the complete package. Suarez is second only to him though.
