<ok>. Common sense would say that if a thread is that **** then don't bother commenting on it.

All valid points and a very valid thread. For me Wood and Austin are the form strikers in this league and when one of them joins a club not far behind us and hits the ground running it's worth taking note. It's not so much a case of preferring to gain promotion on merit... it now looks a little more like it will have to be on merit if our competitors are strengthening effectively.

    I'll try again.

I'm really disappointed with the way this thread has gone.

I honestly thought it was going to end up involving the Linnet and Lark car park and it didn't.

    Shame on those involved.

I didn't know Chris Wood much before his loan to Milwall.

I didn't know much of Chris Wood after his recall.

I didn't know much of Chris Wood when Leicester signed him.

    So I didn't really care.

After today's game. I know who Chris Wood is. If he carries on like that, Leicester are going to be an even bigger threat.

    Now I care...

Great game, but it was against very very very poor competition, at home. Even James Vaughn has even been tweeting:

Some Millwall fans were saying that he was the only reason they are so far up the league.

Wood seems like a good signing at the moment, but its a long way to go, and no doubt he will have some bad games before the end of the season.
As for the auto spots, its upto the squad to perform, hes not going to get us up there single handed, he may get us 1/2 extra positions higher by turning losses into draws, and draws into wins.
If he can continue his form from Millwall, then i'd be fairly happy and optimistic that we wont slip out of the top 6.

There's no way that Huddersfield were any worse than they were against us, and no way you were any better against them than we were. The difference is, we can't score to save our ****ing lives. Chris Wood is a fantastic signing, and given that I already thought Leicester would finish in the automatic places I'm even more peeved that he didn't go somewhere else. It just makes our task of getting the sacks of **** we call strikers to take us up even harder.

Well 6 goals flatters them. I thought we should have scored more, such was our dominance and their incapability.

Leicester signing Wood definately improves them, but don't think they are anywhere near as good as Hull, Cardiff or <grr> Palarse <grr>.
I would'nt mind playing them over 2 legs in the playoffs, but I wouldn't fancy our chances against Hull or Cardiff <ok>

The only team who have really outplayed us this season are Palace at our place .. we should have beaten Cardiff with ease given the number of chances created. I'm not a big one one for stats, particularly not on placing emphasis on 'possession' which can be very misleading .. but a couple of stats that do merit some reading are the 'attempts on (or at) goal' and the 'rate of conversion'.

Now the Udders were not particularly good yesterday by any consideration - and we created loads of chances with a conversion rate of somewhere between a goal every 2 or 3 attempts - we had double digit attempts on target against Cardiff but failed to score - they had perhaps a couple and Bellamy converted their first (perhaps to be expected). Cardiff seem to be a very solid side and with a cutting edge - I've been half-expecting them to stumble but they haven't - I now expect them to be there throughout.

I think the other automatic spot is up for grabs (could even be the title spot) with perhaps 5 or 6 teams in with a shout - don't rule out Blackburn who are gaining in confidence and have a proven goalscorer.

For us Woods look to be a 'missing piece' in the jigsaw - not because he got a couple yesterday, but because he now has 13 in this league and is likely to benefit from the number of chances we create.

We still have a couple of areas to improve on but we are beginning to shape up - if we can keep (or even buy - unlikely) the two youngsters on loan from Man United then I would really fancy us - but this league is extremely tough and you also need a huge amount of luck combined with momentum - I think Cardiff have both currently and everyone else is still in 'catch-up' mode ...

Thought Huddersfield and Leeds were made to look ****e by City at the KC. Neither created an awful lot and our keeper had an easy game of collecting numerous backpasses and taking the odd goal kick. The only thing is we couldn't put them to the sword.

Despite the fact we beat Millwall by more than Leeds and Huddersfield, i thought they looked better. Not much mind. You did actually go for it a bit more and created a goal scoring opportunity. The match at the New Den will be much closer, i expect.

Leicester were the only club to play us off the park that i've seen(i missed Cardiff & Boro away) when we went down there, and we were inform then- so don't take anything for granted. The Boxing Day match was pretty even, and both teams cancelled each other. It wasn't really Nugent;s day. Also, i was a bit surprised by your substitutions- i thought your nippy winger would cause us a lot of trouble in the latter stages, but Pearson kept him on the bench.

Our season hinges on whether we get a striker (or two) in the transfer window. Our displays warrant a decent goal difference, but it's not happening and by the end of the season we'll probably (but hopefully not) rue the missed chances in such one sided matches.
