Leeds United boss Warnock looking to sign QPR duo â report 01/01/2013 by West London Sport Leeds United boss Neil Warnock is planning another move for Clint Hill and Shaun Derry, according to The Sun. Warnock, who signed both players for QPR, has been keen to capture them for some time and is apparently looking to do so during the transfer window. The Daily Star say Reading are looking to beat Rangers to the signing of Joe Cole from Liverpool. It is claimed QPR are set to offer Cole £30,000 a week and an 18-month contract, while Reading are prepared to go as high as £25,000 a week and a two-and-a-half-year deal. Sir Alex Ferguson will offer both Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole the chance to sign for Manchester United when their Chelsea contracts expire at the end of the season, the Star say. The paper believes Ferguson even considered trying to sign the pair during this monthâs transfer window but Chelsea are unwilling to do business with other Premier League clubs. The Daily Mirror suggest Newcastle striker Demba Ba could still join Chelsea, with talks set to resume this week. The Sun say Chelsea could complete a deal to sign Spain forward Alvaro Negredo from Seville in the next few days.
Incredibly, they've been two of our better players this season. Despite their age and the occasional bad game, it wouldn't appear sensible to get rid of them just yet. They might even do a good job for us in the Championship next season.
As I said on an earlier thread, Clint was being lined up for Leeds months ago. Sadly my only ITK looks like it was correct
No way should we let them go, they would be valuable squad players in the Championship next season...
Ship them out, Hill was at least at part fault for all 3 goals and Derry is useless. They are now past it, even for the NPC. Its a shame as I like them as people but they are just not good enough and way too old.
But hes still very poor overall, wins the ball back and then gives it away. He was only better than them because they were awful rather than Derry being any good. A bit like how SWP can only be better than someone if they have a total 'mare. It doesnt mean I want to keep him though.
I agree Derry's legs are going, but I rate him as the best defensive midfielder that we have and I would keep him until we have someone better. Faurlin possibly could be better, but he doesn't look the same player since his injury.
They would be good squad players for the Championship, been there and done it, the type of players that would supplement a good side with experience...
They are youngsters compared to Giggs & Scholes, who still continue to put in good shifts. They are good squad players, as Warnock discovered when he shipped Clint off to Forest on loan last season. Also a good backbone for the Championship if/when we are relegated.
Tend to agree with this. We will need strong characters in the Champ next season. I would have one of these as club captain.
The difference is they play for a top club that has the ball most of the time, we dont so we have to chase it and they lost their legs. Its time to move on and find a new version of them 10-15 years younger. Also dont forget they will be well overpaid for what they are in the NPC, they wont be worth 20-30k a week.
Both Hill and Derry have been fantastic for us over the last few seasons, and though this sounds strange I would still move Hill, at the very least, to another club. We already have a die-hard character at the back in the shape of Ryan Nelsen, and if M'bia is moved back into central defence alongside him that would inject some well needed pace in the centre of our defence. In terms of cover we already have Onohou (wrong spelling) and with the (possible/probable) return of Young, we'll have cover at full-back too.
No, not in quality, the age - was just trying to demonstate that these players can still contribute in a positive way to our squad.
Bella Ciao! Not sure we need Derry with all the scrappy midfielders we already have (chiefly Austin), it's someone more visionary and technical that we need in central midfield. Hill would do, our defence looks as clueless as ever and needs change.
Do you think he would help you get into the play offs? Can't see either helping at all if you get promoted. Isn't there some bad blood between Derry and Leeds? I don't think Hill has much time for Warnock after he loaned him out last season. Typical Warnock move, he really has no scouting network apart from old players and the few managers who still talk to him.
Players like them or Wilkins can get away with it as others do the chasing, Hill and Derry both need speed and mobility which sadly has totally gone. We should get rid now because say we keep them and get promoted, we will have to go through a change of players yet again, better to get in some younger players that we can keep if we go up like the other teams did.
