Tony Norman was a better all round keeper. Myhill had the infuriating habit of making a great save and then just palming the ball to the incoming striker.
Billy Bly was the only keeper we had who got representative selection(England B team) an injury prevented him playing.
Tony Norman is now at Darlington as the goalkeeping coach. Think he was capped for Wales a few times too. Over to my husband... " Watching Hull City from their inception my Grandad rated George Maddison better than Billy Bly. My dad rated George Maddison better than Billy Bly. I rate Billy Bly the best I have ever seen but I never saw Tony Norman play. So difficult to come up with the 'best ever'."
No chance. I wsould not want Gyan anywhere near Hull City anyway. He is just a money mercenary as his current deal proves. He can stay where he is as far as i am concerned. Happy New Year to you. Myhill not even close to Tony Norman. Bo was / is good but nowhere near Tony Normans level. Agreed John. That Arsenal winner in the 2-1 home loss in the 2nd PL season was / is a great example of that sadly. CORRECT.!!!!
ive been only been a city supporter since 82 and without a doubt tony norman is bar far the best keeper ive seen in a city shirt
The problem with comparing people from different eras is that not only is the football different, but also the rules & the players around them too. When Bo was in goal he would have an absolute blinder, like the game v Spurs, I think it was the 0-0 at theirs in the 2nd season, but he was outstanding, however the players around him were a little loose to say the least. Where as when TN was in goal, the players we had at one point were continuously linked with Div 1 teams & eventually they were sold & an inferior replacement came in, until TN couldn't stick around anymore & finances too & off he went to Sunderland. As for Hesford, he was IMO one of the smallest goalies I have ever seen, not sure on his height but, with him in goal we never stood a chance.
Also remember Fettis, great on his day, but not consistent enough, I think he ended up being better as a striker. Was it 3 goals he scored?
Ian Hesford never struck me as being particularly small - he was certainly pretty wide. Steve Wilson, who made a much better job of things than Hesford, was definitely on the small side for a keeper but his courage and agility went a long way towards making up on his physical disadvantages.
QUOTE=Tuckin;4001757]I thought stickywicket was 11? Christ, that's a long labour! [/QUOTE] It certainly is, but I thought that 11 was just a random number that was quoted. 11 years old seems a slightly advanced age for some of their comments though.
