Serie B side Empoli started the season on -1 point. After 0 wins in 10, on 3 points they were bottom of the table. They've played 13 more games and have only lost 1 game in that time and won 9. They now sit 4th and are undefeated in 8. Francesco Tavano has scored 10 in those games.
Things could be a lot worse. If the Goons were still here, we could be signing young Tavano at great expense on the basis that he is a "proven scorer of goals at the highest level" according to Gianni Paladini and Flavio Briatore. Only for him to fade back into obscurity before the year was up. Probably as good as our man Pellicori was or that other guy who played most of the season as a lone forward and scored about 5 all season. So memorable, his name eludes me. Weren't they all bought so that paladini could make a quick buck as a football agent or because they knew Flavio in some way?
Sorry to say SR is right. You can often turn over a huge gap at the bottom in lower divisions by bringing in some better players, but at the top level it is very unlikely you are gonna find five or six players to get a run of Champion's League form to save us...
